    Did you go?

I considered it but thought better of risking my health on a better day (was supposed to rain after noon?)

Couldn't ski back to the car because the plow cleared out the lot, but coverage was really good overall. Started raining around 11:30, but still great.

I’m out of town. Finishing up a week in Maui, fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at the October skiing situation right now!

^^^ Damn I had to look that up.

Jonesy-> just feel lucky you didn’t have to clean this up...

    Populus trichocarpa

This giant black cottonwood stands near the site of the Willamette Mission established by Reverend Jason Lee in 1834. At that time, the Mission and tree were located on the banks of the Willamette River. The great flood of 1861 changed the river course to its present channel, leaving what is now Mission Lake. The Willamette Mission Cottonwood is the largest of its kind in Oregon and the nation.

    Tree Facts
    Approx. height: 155′
    Age: Approx 270 years
    Circumference: 26′ 3″
    Dedicated on: April 13, 2001
    Crown: 110′
    Visit this tree
The tree is located in Willamette Mission State Park on Wheatland Ferry Road.
26’ circumstance is like 8’ thick.

Anyone know how to find the special use permit or their application?

I'm curious if that starts opening up more lift served mountain bike potential. It seems quite obvious to do so, considering (a) the serious CapEx investment to buy/install/operate a gondi, and (b) the fact that the climate in that area in 30 years will be more like the Sierra Nevada Foothills (e.g., Downieville) than that of Cascadian mountain towns ...

US26 across the pass will be a real cluster once (or if) all those come together

I don't see how this will get approval without hwy26 being 4 lanes from Gresham. And I'll be taking 35 a lot more...

    <snort>

    >70% (>35 degrees): too steep for all but the highest level of skiing/riding. These areas
are typically allocated as Expert only and are closely managed by the resort operator
    for avalanche control.

There's only 15 miles of 26 that isn't 4 lanes. Rhowdy to Gov. Highly unlikely the pull to gov will every be 4 laner.

^when the snow is sticking there are no lines so it is basically a one lane free for all no matter what they paint on the ground.

IMO they need to quit squandering all my money and build that fast passenger train over the mountain from Portland to Bend.

Going EB on 26, right out of Rhodi and just past Govi is were the bad choke points are, always going to slow there until it's 4 lane, it depends on the time on how long it's backed up. A OD mentioned, it can either be a 1 or 3 lane road with snow on the ground, unfortunately it's usually the former.
