    Little Grom ski size?

Want to grab some skis for the 5 yo, he's 43.5 in tall and 40 lbs. He can do easy beginner slopes with good control , off lifts not just magic carpet learning areas , but wasn't confident enough last season to tackle longer greens. Fairly fearless so will most likely be fine for those this year. What length should I be looking for?

Also anyone ever use those sizeable Roces boots?

Chin height or a little under. Measure in centimeters.

Looked at seasonal rentals but looks like I can get as good if not a better deal on lightly used or closeout new stuff and then use it for my daughter next when she's old enough or just sell it.

^^^^This...as someone who works in a high volume shop that has a shit ton of seasonal “crap” rentals. I recommend to my friends who are buying for their kids to come in and get something new (but old) stock. The price is not much more for new stuff........than putting their kids on crap.

If you can get 2 years out of it...or pass it down to siblings....then eventually sell it or swap it......you make out on the deal even more.

I’d find a traditional carver around 90cm. Seems about right. 100cm would be fine as well. 80cm he might find too short after half a season. If you end up with a modern design and early rise tip, maybe look at 100cm more. My guy was on 110s Hot Rods and 118 Gotamas at 5 and 6 yrs. a little taller and heavier, and a stronger skier (blues and some blacks at 5) For reference.

But used, sell used has worked really well for me over the past five years. We have bought and sold 6 pairs of skis (he started getting powder skis as well a few years back as we get deep days often enough) and have maybe lost a little of $50 on the deals. Not bad rental rates. And they have all been great skis.

If go with chin to nose high Combi race skis. (90-100cm) Good learning tools. Not too stiff. Most big brands have em. Good availability and good market for resale.

Make sure the ski can bend, so many tiny skis are overly stiff. Elan has one of the best options here. As mentioned chin..to nose max.
    Click. Point. Chute.

Skis should be between chin and nose in height. At 5 the ski type doesn't really matter whether they're the combi style or twin-tip style. Another option you can check out for buying is some shops will do a trade in program on kids gear so that if you buy this year you can take them back at the end of the year and get new ones in a different size for next with some store credit. Generally they have the same program for boots and poles. It's usually an extremely good deal from the shops that offer it.

How about DIN setting? I have 2 groms about the same height and weight as the OP.

    2nd the Elans.

Whatever you get, make sure it has system bindings. So much easier to sell.

The size able Roces from L9 are amazing. Unless your kid is a hard core racer, they will be stiff enough. Best thing ever for kid skiing, no more mid-season foot growth get new boot issues, and constant BSL across the kid quiver

Cool. Ordered them and the 90mm Defiance Flash skis / bindings from level 9 cyber Monday deal. Aparently they are made in the Elan factory. I'm sure not top end quality, but cost same as a seasonal rental around here w discount. Total was approx 180 for all. Figure my Daughter can use them after him in a few yrs so seemed worth it. Pretty stoked for the little dude., Can't wait till he wants to walk around my hardwood living room with them on

My guy was a DIN 1 last year, need to double check for this year. But the 0.75-4.5 clamps will be a good range

Yeah, I think we're a little high at 2. Seems like they rarely come out. At 1, we had a hard time keeping them strapped on even on and off the lift.
