Major 'fuck you' to the locals and business community.

The unintended consequences will be more people skiing the pass. People that likely shouldn't be there. And they'll be there when they shouldn't, like during avy control work.
I have to pay the spring price, and wifey gets the 30% off deal. If she doesn't get the ikon bennies it does me no good to have them either. If they pull those shenanigans now after the Targhee price has jumped I'm going to be fucking pissed.

However, that would all be a moot point if the resort pulls that employee bullshit. They won't have any employees if you take away a third of their ski days. They barely have enough people as it is.

ps. Djongo, as the winner of this winter's stoke award hope you are healing up quick and get to enjoy some summer fun.

Skied Tallboy off of the col between Teewinot and Owen today. What an amazing line, such a long fall line to ski. I’d guess 3500 ft? Great snow up high - cold, dry pow on N aspects with a thin layer of wind slab. Killer conditions for May 3! The Tetons never disappoint... you all live in a special place.

    Way to go TFT!!!!

Damn, dog, that's some big obscurite' to say the least, FKNA.
More danger than is obvious too.

See ya this evening and Dinner is on me.

Thanks for the Kudos, Adi, I appreciate that. I do have my unstokey moments fosho. But as you know firsthand, this place is easy to get excited about.

Knee is good and PT ladies say I'm charging it with an A for effort. I was cleared for any cussing tirades.

I'm just not gonna believe any info about the vill until it's for certain. I jumped the gun last winter with some inside word that was incorrect.

I debated even buying a pass for next year after my knee axe, but now I'm back on the plan to buy the full tilt boogie in spring. It's the best way to not be under the man's thumb.

This year is gonna be a fiscal shitshow. $$$$

    Djongo - see ya tonight.

Day 2, skied Red Sentinel on the N side of Dissapointment Peak. Deep, cold pow with minimal wind effect for the first 1k then we immediately entered the Glacier Gulch corn factory for almost 4k of skiing. Maybe 2 turns of crust in the transition from pow to corn, I’ve never had such perfect conditions top to bottom with so much vert. Usually it’ll be great up high, good in the middle, and slush down low, or some mix of that. Corn all the way to the valley floor, no slush - wtf, it is May 4!!! Our timing was perfect. I say this a lot, but I mean it this time... One of my favorite ski days of all time.

Dude this is nothing compared to what the real skiers accomplish here. Just trying to share some stoke. It is humbling and inspiring what the Jackson locals accomplish. We got passed at 5am on the skin track by Brendan ONeill (he skied the first descent of the N face of the Grand a few years back) who was basically sprinting solo uphill. My friend knows him and texted him tonight to ask what he was up to...

No big deal, the dude said he just skied the Grand, Middle, and South in 9 hours... normal Sunday for him I guess, haha!

Kinda my point. Most of us got a more than a little bit of regular life that gets in the way of being a super hero. I always find it inspiring and motivational of see those of us with everyone opportunity to us the anchors of what many would call the real world as excuses preventing us from getting after it actually getting after it.

Said another way. I'm trying to be less of a lazy pussy. If not me who? If not now when? Life it too short.

Welp, can confirm that the Ikon benefits will not be offered to anyone who gets their pass discounted through the JH Air program. So basically anyone who gets a discount through work.

    Figures.

That's a lot of people too, likely more than outright pass buyers.

Glad the PT is going well! That picture you sent of the knee and brace was pretty scary. I am still planning a cruise down to Jackson for a visit and maybe wet a line.

not an expert on JH Air, but I get the impression that it's been hugely important to the resort's bottom line. I guess the JH air contributors all probably made more money with the ikon influx but still, big ol cockpunch to the community right there. funny how their slick PR efforts and the JHNG articles about adding the ikon benefits didn't mention this big asterisk.

I know it's not quite the Jackson or the Tetons but I figure you guys have a better chance of knowing than anyone else... Hoping to ski Gannett in 10 days or so. Does anyone know what access is looking like right now? Can you skin from Elkhart Park?

LazyA - call the Great Outdoor shop in Pinedale. They're as likely to know about Gannett access as anyone.

The JH air triangle = Businesses put into a fund that goes to subsidize more airline seats coming in; Airline gets a minimum to fly in x amt. of seats full or not. Businesses get varying levels of access/pass discounts for employees. Ski area has more seats basically for their fly in tourists.

Example: if you get a job with the Four seasons you'd get 30% off a season pass, at any date; or they get about 5-10 fully transferable passes that employees could share at all 3 ski areas anytime. 4Seasons puts about $50k into kitty for airlines. Airline adds a few flights in winter to get more money on the ground.

Hard saying who benefits the most/least. In my experience, this town just doesn't pull the money from tourists like some places. It's a town set up more for tire kickers, than big spenders. That's not to say prices on some stuff isn't stupid expensive. Full retail is for chumps.

Still kinda snowy, muddy springish here Talisman. Give it a few to dry and green up.

Thought I was done for the season, put everything away, and then got talked into the Fallopian Tube on Sunday. Cool line. Mediocre snow.

Also wrote up a little end of season bit if you're into that sort of thing: http://bemorestoked.com/writing/2019...-19-ski-season

Thanks. They do indeed! For anyone else wondering, apparently Elkhart Park isn't even accessible by car yet. Road is impassible with snow just beyond White Pine ski area (adding a few extra miles to the trailhead).

You'll be able to ski Gannett in July so might as well wait at this point, although this may be an epic skeeter year up there this Summer.
