my 4wd is in the shop, so i am stuck with a 2wd for a bit (have snow tires though). for a less stressful drive into jackson from idaho, is going south (26-89-191) around the pass a better option? or do they tend to plow teton pass more frequently? I've only ever taken the pass. maps shows a 15 minute difference for me, just wondering which route gets more attention from the transit authorities.

    thanks in advance.

Clown cars of workers make it over all the time on bald tires in fwd Pontiacs. You'll most likely be ok assuming it isn't dumping and you know how to drive in snow.

That being said, if you try and can't make it over you are looking at a 2 hour minimum detour over pine creek and around by the palisades and up the canyon. It might just be worth it to eat the 15 minutes and not risk it.

ps: Ty, that was an interesting listen. Sure sounds like Jay is over it.

Eh, my personal opinion is that the pass is more binary. It's either open, or it's not, and if it's open, it's usually pretty driveable. I rocked a front wheel drive car with snow tires here for two winters, drove the pass a lot, an never had any real issue. They do a great job staying on top of plowing unless we're getting really insane weather.

Not sure where you're coming from, but this winter at least, we've had a bunch of closures on 32 and 33 due to drifting snow, at least as many as we've had on the pass.

So as long as it's not closed due to avy stuff, I'd say the pass is your best bet. That said, I rarely drive the other way in the winter, so I really don't have a great handle on conditions down south, somebody else might have better feedback.

Has anyone else heard or seen one out there?
No that’s just the collective roar of the locals at the Ikon pass that you heard.

Didn't want to crowd the pupper.

Pogs - Yeah, def take the Teton pass route via Pine creek pass over to Victor from Swan valley on Idaho 31. The collective is unanimous.

Skiing was pretty sweet today. Firm, cold and carvy. heading towards jarring on south aspects. good time for some heavy to light stormage. Please.

Adi's assessment of the pass clown action is both hilarious and spot on. Pontiacs!, that's in-depth now.

Funny JONG post - a bear roaring here in the middle of a deep winter.

My friend told me he measured 76" on the ground outside of his house in middle Teton village. The most I've ever seen/skied at all elevations. You can ski wherever you want. GC is nuts how full it is.

    Ikon Flakes!

    Ikon Flakes!

    They don't do no good
    They never be skiin’
    Where they oughta should
    They waste your time
    They snake your line

    Jackson’s got the most of them . . .
Boy, they got a host of them

Swear t'God they got the most
From every ski hill on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
From every ski hill on the coast

    We got the Flakes
    Ikon Flakes!

    They can't use their brakes
You ask 'em, "Where's your beacon?"
"Well, it was eaten by snakes..."

You can stab 'n' shoot 'n' spit,
But JH won't be fixin' it
    They're loud and they’re lazy
They will be following you O.B.

Swear t'God they got the most
From every ski hill on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
From every ski hill on the coast
    ———————

    Take it away, Jerry...
I Tried as hard as I could
    To destroy something really good
To ruin the best skiiers mountain!

Well, my whole damn GM career
    came 'n' went, Frankie
. (Wanna buy into Ikon, Jerry?)
And I didn't do enough damage
So my final act was to sell out
The whole damn mountain to Ikoners

And You know, no matter what you do,
We’re gonna cheat 'n' rob you
Then we’ll create a lift line so long
    It’ll get your senses reelin'

And so we hired a new GM
    To complete the Disney experience
Her excuses will get you so crazy
That your head'll go through the ceilin'
    Yes it will!
    —————————

I'm a moron, 'n' this is my wife
    She's Sideslipping Alta
    Scared for her life

The skis we ride here is
    A skinny short blade
    We’re so loud and cheesey,
    We’ll make you enraged

Well we don't get excited when
Tram line goes out to the Snake
We just get on the phone
    And call up some Flakes
    They rush on over
    'N' line up some more
    'N' we are so dumb
They're linin' up at our door

Well, the lift lines were crazy
    Until late afternoon
    The traffic’s even worse
    Than summer after June

    Reserved season parking
    Cost me two week's pay
And the mountain told me to go away-ay-ay-eee-ay
    away-ay-ay-eee-ay
    Better luck next day
    WOO-OOO

    One two three four!
    Ikon flakes!

    We are millions 'n' millions,
    We're coming to get you
    We're protected by Ikon
So don't let it upset you
    Can't escape the conclusion
    It's probably God's Will
    That JH skiing
    Will grind to a standstill

    And we are the people
Who will make it all happen
    While yer GM is sleepin',
    Yer mountain is crappin'
    You might call us Flakes
Or something else you might coin us
But we know you're so greedy
    That you'll probably join us
We're coming to get you, we're coming to get you
We're coming to get you, we're coming to get you
We're coming to get you, we're coming to get you
We're coming to get you, we're coming to get you...

Mary Kate's op ed today feels like she is throwing salt in the wound. I can't believe she is trying to blame locals for the problem. And her solution is for us to deal and to take more START busses. Talk about passing the buck.

6-12 tonight though, so I'm sure we'll all be out regardless tomorrow. Get some!

Obviously more people will ski JHMR if the ticket price is right, we've seen that with the Ikon this year.

Why doesn't she just lower the window rate ($158 for tomorrow)????

You can buy the full Ikon pass for the 2019/2020 season now for $949, this included 7 days at Jackson Hole with NO BLACKOUT DATES. If you were to buy a 7 out of 10 days online from Jackson Hole it would be $971, $22 MORE than the Ikon Pass.

Ikon Base pass is $649, and you get 5 days at JHMR. If you bought a 5 out of 7 direct from the resort it would be $695.....

No way to verify how much the resort is getting from IKON, but what if the resort put the window rate down to $90-$110? Seems like they would make more money and not overcrowd the resort.

Strong rumor is around $70-75 per day an ikon pass holder skis at JHMR, but there is also a strong rumor that there is a cap on how much JMHR can get from Alterra for the season. Both are here say though
