good to know, mountain modern motel is where I'm staying so I'll have to hitch on india style on the roof or bumper.
secret tip-trade for Squaw: park at the resort at squaw creek parking area and take the lift from there, you can cut about 1.5 miles of cars lined up for the main lot. (or go to alpine instead)

Secret tip for Squaw - Don't go to Squaw. Or Alpine. Go to Homewood. You'll be skiing powder laps while others are posting "Wow man, it's 11:20 and I've been waiting in line for 4hrs but it's worth it because I'm going to be on the 7th chair on kt-22". Along with all the other "rad dudes".

I’m in Steamboat for the week, missing all the insanity, and I wish I was home. Nothing like the terrain JHMR has.

OK, and what about that airport, the only one inside a National Park in the US? They've been trying to get the runway extended since 1979. No matter how many 737s go sliding off the end, it ain't gonna happen. Kip Attaway has a nice song about it called "god bless Jackson". Gotta protect that sagebrush.
I agree with the need, I use the back road all the time to avoid town, and it looks like they're going to pave it, (not sure if that's good or bad).
But you are overly optimistic about that bridge. A bridge CAN be done, but it won't be done.Well maybe I'm the faggot America

Prolly a better chance of working with fed govmint/nps to extend JAC runway than build bridge through Richie Rich's backyard.
Summer gets even worse traffic and I'd say 2/3 are work trucks going jobsites like landscaping Richie's yard - even tho it's empty 9 mos of the year. At least they're carpooling with 6 workers packed in a F250

So what’s the word on conditions the rest of the week? Are the warm temps going to end up in refrozen crust Thursday and Friday at JH? Broke shop rat here, been once this season and have 4 days off. Don’t want to waste them driving up to ski on dust on crust or ice. Any bets on if the bc gates will open back up?

Richie Rich = Resor? Do you think anybody would mind a road going across his land after this??

Anyone want to trade Jackson Hole pass for Squaw pass?
Hello Wyo skiers,
Any Jackson Hole employees interested in trading me a JH day pass for a Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows day pass? I work at Alpine and will be on a trip to Jackson next week, 3/7-3/9. I get half off, but still would prefer to go for a trade!

18/19 Jackson/Targhee/Tetons Thread- Ski the big red one
^^^still true. Powder sticks around, but it is lower angle, lower down and slower lifts. I like it there, but hey why other s don’t. Also like Diamond Peak. Less acreage, better views, more pitch, faster lifts. Pretty icy just as empty.
Its gonna feel a little different from where you have been hanging. Otoh, it’s like stacking that place three high and two across, without the run out. So you’ll have places to roam once out of that line thing.

If I’m not mistaken, and IKON only gets you 5 or 7 days at JHMR. Seems like it would be a poor purchase for a local.
I get why y’all hate them. I would too. I hate that Kirkwood is owned by Vail. Keep hoping they sell the place and we get off the Epic pass. That said, I might be buying an IKON in spring when Vail closes is down nearly a month early, so I can keep skiing lifts at squawlpine and mammoth. If that happens, I might spend 5 days at JHMR, because I can. Been a decade or more since I’ve been there. But it is a whole lot less appealing that before. I had no lines while there, and very much prefer that to massive lines. As a potential guest (non local) I’d rather buy at the ticket window without the crowds that have it included with a pass and deal with lines.
I wonder how much IKON has hurt the ticket window sales.

Considering we can't even convince everyone to finish tribal trails, I have doubts about any extra bridges.

I live here, and next year I'm going to either get an Ikon or stick to the SK magic carpet with my kids. I usually go to the vill for groomers/apres or big powder days with significant avy danger. Those powder days are such a shitshow now, and I can live without lifts or just take what I get from the base IKON and go take a few trips and be a gaper dipshit myself. I've been here since 03 and have never seen the traffic/parking/lift lines that we've had this season. Not to even mention the pylons and poor lift line etiquette...
If JHMR is going to prioritize their bottom line over the experience they're providing (especially the local experience), I'm done contributing to that bottom line. Heard they get $18/scan from Ikon - compare that to what they get from a local on even the discounted season/weekend/10-day passes...ouch.Last edited by gravityrideseverything; 02-28-2019 at 02:23 PM.

Speaking of Snow King.
They have a J1 lifty, usually on Cougar, that is straight up the most stoked dude I've ever seen bumping chairs. Props to that guy as he always brings a smile.Live Free or Die
