Yeah. Another lost ski bum friend.

Skiing was fucked in the bowl today. 4 inches of pow on the remaining Frozen Harbor Chop. With 6/10 viz.
And a shitton of Gaping. I thought that had passed. So many clucks and only a few locs pushing into the Darkside for shady laps.
A tram full of 170 cm skis. Spring break teams too. 20 doods in about 10 feet of maze space.

    Grrrrrrr.

I'm looking at a full Thunder maze and at least a 2 tram wait on the webcams from the office right now, at 3pm on a refreeze Monday with dust. This is insane. .

At the risk of being flamed -. the first place I go in Jackson is Bubba's for a 3 meat platter and salad bar. Enough for for the next 2 days. Pulled pork nachos! Mmmmm!

It is Jeffco Schools and Denver Public Schools Spring Break. I'd wager that a lot of IKONic families are getting there Tetons on...or is it the locals?

Met a family from boulder parked close to us in the ranch lot

Sun softened up the mountain nicely on the afternoon

Got last tram after a 2 box wait

Saw someone drop central as we skied the bowl

Looked pretty narrow in the upper crux and the exit looked relatively large

    Impressive

    Mountain collective here
    Aggressive in my own mind

Lots of Colorado schools on spring break. However we are staying at a place that is also hosting a 25 person San Francisco ski club, and I met some serious “all that” folks on a couple of separate Bridger rides from Chicago. Good lord. The Bogner was shiny though.

Tram was a 2 box wait but never saw a line at Thunder. My son hopped in Corbett’s when it opened. He grabbed us and we went back up but by then it was closed. Spent a little time listening to all the looky loos gathered around the edge talking about what they were gonna do when it opened back up. I now understand the JH local frustration - listening to that and the crap I overheard on the tram might drive me insane.

Mountain was skiing great though. Soft mashed potatoes and corn on most aspects, on other tight places facing the right way it was very nice snow, even soft in places. We got some untouched soft turns early in the morning as well. Little slick underneath but oh well, it’s end of March.

Finally, if you were the dude with the Black Crows I sat with waiting for the tram that gave me some helpful intel while laughing at my teenage kids being needy fuckers, thanks for being friendly.

If anyone is out there today, yellow pants blue jacket with wide Sick Days sporting a yellow GD lighting bolt on one tip. Ask for change. Probably starting later - the frozen up mashers will be a bit rattly first thing.

What's the best way to get from the airport to the hostel?

If anyone wants to make a few extra bucks by shuttling me there tomorrow night, I'd appreciate it/lmk. Sure we can find some dollar figure where it's mutually beneficial vs other options.

Will be arriving at 830ish pm

Now that Ride2Fly (AKA: Sketchy dudes deciding if they want to kidnap you and sell you into sex slavery) is gone, I've had good luck with Uber. Little cheaper than a cab generally.

Today just under Sublette in one of the Alta chutes my 17 yo kid was standing on top of a pretty big drop. Chairs were yelling encouragement. Some dude says he’ll buy him a beer if he goes. So kid hucks it and stomps. Chairs hollering, super cool. Guy shouts at him to meet him on top to make good on the beer. Course he was hauling so fast he smashed his chin on his knee on a mogul down below, so he had some tongue blood to spit out before we could head up.

JH is awesome. That’s good family fun.

Did he get the beer? I'll buy him one at the summit tomorrow. Pickatime...
The laws of men end at roughly 8000'.

And You're Welcome. In the literal sense. I can dig skiers getting after it when skiing is firm. Always welcome here.

Did not get the beer yet. Heh. He’s with a friend today. Yellowishgreen pants and redwhiteandblue striped K2 marksman skis. Only combo like that on the mountain I’m sure. If you saw him and acknowledged it would probably make his trip. Ask him for change. He knows what that means.

Laws of men have never applied in the mountains, nor should they ever.

I gotta say, I’ve had some real friendly chats with locals so far. Good guys, very open, very cool. Thx for the hospitality. This hill, this community and this place are worthy of respect for sure. Grateful to be here for a bit.

What is the tariff on snow?

Thinking they could use it in Pyeongchang.

Not to seem too cranky but: I live about a block from that snowpile. They just started using the fairgrounds as the snow deposit place a few years ago. Now we get to listen to back up beepers almost every hour of the day, all winter long.

World class valley, run by a sack of hammers.

All TGR mags welcome to meet up tomorrow in the Casper restaurant to put names to faces, socialize and make some turns together. No pressure, strictly fun and casual on a sunday. Stay for a minute or take laps all day.

Usual time is at 11 am; late enough for sleeping, early enough to not have to hang if skiing is marginal. Plus or minus 20 minutes, cuz' timing can be challenging.

Hope to see some of you low profile doods; PeterB, SuperGaper, Passholer, All of ya's!
Xtine -you around girl? Last time I saw you, you were prepping your " I'm fixin' to crush some pow, mother*^$#ers! " face. - Low pro powslayer, that one...

Outta town mags most welcome of all, show up and ask for change.

Sorry to miss this and sorry we didn’t meet up Thursday Djongo. Rolling on I80 right now.

That mountain you have is a seriously fun place. Absolutely amazing week.

Enjoy. Hope to make turns with you next time.

Djongo has been second to none making me feel welcome here in Jackson...hope to see some others tomorrow!

Sun finally blessed the mountain today which resulted in some super fun conditions all day. Coming from the east coast, the complete lack of lines on a Saturday was a welcome surprise

As well said assessment as any. Often repeat by hordes.

I think what was missed in the festering debate of over the new hole is what grabbed me thirty four years ago; the first time I saw it alone as an adult. Skiing made it become a place of transients. A much more excepting collective than a deeply rooted majority native populace.

The same collective now being diluted by commercialism and factioning.

The range remains the same and the ppl who reap it's gold red white and blue will always be here.
