Mammoth Mountain Weather
11-25-18 6 AM – Today’s weather forecast for Mammoth Mountain is calling for high clouds that will turn to mostly clears skies later today. Monday looks to be a full-on bluebird day with no clouds and then Tuesday into the weekend we have a series of storm’s headed our way.
The pattern change we have been talking about for weeks as now taken place. Weather models now show us in a great position to see off and on storm’s for the next couple weeks and possibly beyond.
It’s not often we get a pattern like this so early in the season. Let’s hope it all shows up as we are looking at in the outlook.
For today highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s out on the hill today with winds out of the SW to 15-25 gusting to 35+ MPH at times.
Lows will be in the low 20’s for some good snowmaking production overnight. Monday we warm up with a high near 40 at Main Lodge with winds just 10-15 MPH out of the east.
Tuesday we have storm one moving in later in the day, not expecting any accumulations at this time until Tuesday night into Wednesday. That first system looks to be light with about 3-5 inches of fresh snow.
It’s the second system that looks good for 2-3 feet of new snow from Main Lodge to the top. Do not be surprised if amounts go higher then that by the end of the week.
Snowman out…

Nah man. Stayed there last spring for $135. I bring my own food. Don’t drink (much) or party so a nice room to hang in is worth if for the extra down time. Great pool and spa. Clean. I got nasty respiratory infection from a slimy motel in Carson City a few year ago so I’m cautious now.

Obviously this place is not for you.
Might help someone else find a cheap warm bed though.

Last 2 days in Mammoth were pretty decent. Chair 23 laps today and top to bottom gondi runs. Sorta Spring-like loosely packed powder.
Crazy how minimal the lift lines were. But I am looking fwd to some backcountry turns in Tahoe soon.

Dropout chutes were open but you had to traverse back to the bottom of cornice.
Wipeout has great coverage but was closed since the getback to ch 23 would be rock city.

I lapped Dropout 1 Saturday afternoon and pretty much all day Sunday. There are a couple of rocks, but it is really fun. Great conditions for this time of year. On Sunday they opened up the Wipeouts, but I stuck with drop 1.
Here is a food delivery service in Mammoth called doorstep deliveries:

"You ever hear of a little show called branded? Arthur Digby Sellers wrote 156 episodes. Not exactly a lightweight." Walter Sobcheck.
"I didn't have a grandfather on the board of some fancy college. Key word being was. Did he touch the Filipino exchange student? Did he not touch the Filipino exchange student? I don't know Brooke, I wasn't there."

I'd stay there again for sure. They have a big nice kitchen and the staff was nice. Met some really interesting guests including an old man in his 80s that drives from Hollywood to ski Mammoth. Looked like there were lots of camping options but it's very nice to have a shower. Price was worth it just for that.

That's awesome!
Didn't even know about it.
But I can see us possibly using it.
Thanks!

Pretty solid Thanksgiving w/e! Thursday afternoon was surprisingly fun, soft, and empty. Kids got their own version of early ups on Friday and Saturday loading at 6:30am which was quite early for Team Comish.
We were out of there by 11 both days, likely before it go too crowded. Sunday was great. Drop Outs were soft and not rocky until the traverse back out to Cornice. Mrs. Comish and I found a few inches of fresh on the super quiet backside as well. No one there on Sunday! The hill is skiing great for 1 storm in November. Ottime, no crust, all fluff! Stoked for the next storm as we should be game on after a few more feet.
Saturday evening saw Greg Stump and Glen Plake present the 30th Anniversary of The Blizzard of Ahh's at the Yodler! For many of us old dudes, this movie was rather life changing to say the least, so to hear Stumpy and Plake banter, tell stories about 16ib head cams and loading old skool film in a black bag on the side of a mountain was awesome! Very cool evening.
The kids were sitting front row listening to Glen cackle as he does.
He who has the most fun wins!

Early season specials at eagle or main used to be good. Also stay in June and just drive in. 3 bed for $110
I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Stellar Brew has nice breakfast burritos and awsome carrot cake muffins! Better coffee than Looney Bean, too.
