Looking at the above photo Powdork posted of the post at the top of the summit compared to the below and it looks like there was about 6 feet of snow received between the two photos.

It won't be that bad once more terrain opens in Tahoe. Squaw just started spinning a few more lifts today, for example, but it was only Gold Coast as recently as yesterday. But there are definitely a lot of people from the area down in Mammoth right now so it's exaggerating things a bit.

Wow. Can't remember seeing parking that low on a early season "weekday "
Hopefully they spin a lift out of Canyon tomorrow to help with parking.

Crowds rarely concern me at Mammoth, as I can normally get away from them pretty quick. In the past I have gone up Thursday through Sunday normally. This year, most trips will be Sunday through Tuesday/Wed to avoid the crowds even more. Anyone going to be around Sunday thru Tuesday? Looks like the ski club hut is empty except for me.

Winds picked up, temperature dropped and the crowds thinned out quickly after 12:00 p.m.

Coverage is pretty good so I decided to go for a hike. Tucked it from chair five as far as I could then booted up to the top of 22. Made it into avi 2 without to much work. Top of it was windblown pow, the lower bowl was thick and wind crusted. Did a big traverse from chair one out to scotty's and skied some slabby foot deep snow. Taking a quick warm up break and then back out for a few more runs.

Stoked to see Mammoth getting it.
We have a family ski trip planned for the week after Xmas. I know. But it could be worse than the family planning a ski trip for a get-together.

Will be looking for a partner for a hike if the snowfall pattern keeps up. Definitely a Sherwins day and interested in a Crest or Old Man's Bowl/Convict tour. Maybe Punta Bardini.

I've really only skied Mammoth during corporate ski trips with my old company (Patagonia) or on rest days during the Eastside backcountry season. Those trips the apres drinking was robust. This trip, less so with 6 kids in tow.

I was bummed the last few backpacking/climbing trips to see gates on the hot springs roads out of Green Church closing access in winter. Any beta on this would be greatly appreciated.

The gravel road to Whitimere, Crab Cooker and Shepard's has always been closed in winter (to my knowledge.) You can still get there if the unmaintained road from Benton Crossing is passable.

Weekend was good for business. Bumper to bumper traffic up to the main lodge started past the traffic light and stretched down Main Street. Heard the early ups numbers on Saturday broke the record for most attended ever.

Clouds rolling in this afternoon, but winds are up with some silky wind buff forming in the wipeouts. Beware that low tide conditions do exist, so keep the brakes on until you dial in your line.

Great weekend as others have said. Hiking ch22 was clearly the call on Sat, sorry never saw you BB. Got some nice runs down the noids Sunday morning. Then the wind machine started and the wind buff yesterday at the end of the day was stellar in the Wipe Outs.

Mini-mini-Comish (1 of my 8yr old twins, in the pink helmet) skied Wipe 1 with her team before lunch. Wow that pissed off Mini Comish (older brother) who's team didn't ski the top!
