Left AZ about 3:30pm and am still about 2 hours out. Looks like I’ll be only getting a few hours of sleep in before hitting the mountain, hoping the weather is decent.

Reports from the hill today much appreciated. Will be selecting and packing skis this afternoon. Is it pow or ice? Watching those afternoon temps today. Hope it does not get to warm and sunny.

Yesterday was tracked boot-top pow. Pretty fun though heavy. The kind of conditions wrenegades are made for. The sun never really came out but the times the clouds thinned a little the increase in heat was perceptible, as was the snow changing just from that little bit of warmth. Full sun this morning, highs predicted in the 50s, and it should freeze overnight...

Anyone interested in hooking up for backcountry skiing around Mammoth in the next week? Elsewhere is good, too. Have experience touring everywhere from Sherwins to San Jacinto to Tahoe to Shasta and Lassen to Cottonwood Canyons, Tetons, Yellowstone, etc. Conservative, avy savvy, and carefully thought out. Can provide references upon request. Just looking to have fun above all!

Fuck yeah. I’ll be back for some birthday laps.

Coverage is insane. Pretty damn fun out there today. Enjoy taking some new to me lifts.

Arrive 6:55 and I’m forth car from the lift. Fucking sweet. Place is getting pretty crowded at the base lifts though. Lots of folks skiing today.

I’ll holla. Taking a lunch break as even chair 21 has a line now. Insanely crowded. It was pretty much roll onto the chair my first 1.5 hours and then the crowd arrived. Hope the blistering wind drives them all in for warmth and snack.

Been finding fun snow, but would rather a repeat of yesterday. Oh well.

Around 12 the crowd headed in for lunch and never came back out so the chairs were clear. Quite a storm but had some great fun dropping the trees between Wall Street and lower creek.

How's the North facing, high up, steep, snow?
I'm thinking of east side Backcountry skiing next week, and I'm having a hard time figuring the snow.

Lucky timing, I guess! I came out after that. Read about the crowds but didn't see them.

i'm not a mammoth person, so I do not know if this has been posted here or is already known but apparently mammoth is looking to go to august:

"24 May 2019 – After receiving a record amount of snow for May, Mammoth Mountain announced that it will stay open into August."

Yes. Post lunch was great. I basically missed the lines by enjoying a beer mid day.

Lots of great snow out there. St Anton and Dry Creek were good early. Low angle trees off 10,21,4 were fun. Best run was pow on what I think is Viva. Afternoon off Broadway had plenty of powness. The morning should be good. Too bad I’m driving home.

Lots of people ski this place it seems.

Rod - almost everything off the top was sun effected yesterday. I’d expect all but the most shaded aspects to have a healthy spring crust u set the new snow. That said, snow was filling in nicely on northerly aspects by 2pm. Especially catcher mitt shaped lines.

^^^^^noticed that kiwi flats was pretty stacked. I just hit Phillipe’s having never been over there when there is snow before.

Also noticed climax lacked bumps. I did find some small ones off 3, if you need some.

Saturday was the best day of skiing I’ve ever had at mammoth. Perfect conditions from opening till close. Sunday was fun, but was much more fun after lunch. I imagine this morning is pretty damn fun out there.

Will be back around June 10th.

Yes, today was great fun, especially up high directly off the summit; started to get heavy around 1PM, but still good. Also, not as crowded as Sunday.
