Before you flip me shit, be advised that I teled for 20+ years before I found the wisdom that fixing the heel is part of growing up.

Growing up is for work, not skiing!

I have to say it is exhilarating; after you get the turn/knee drop down.
On fast groommers, it is/was, a heart stopping experience, and I'd quickly find a way to force an Alpine technique. It's the bomb in 6 or over off fresh, or soft spring or corn though!

I sadly had to give it up, and sell my shit in my second season. I'm pretty sure it was raising he'll with my knees and hips, but I ultimately could not tolerate the low back pain and sciatica; it all improved or went away when I stopped. I always wondered if it wasn't just my bad technique, and if i should have stuck it out longer. D roc must have spent hours answering my questions, and did an amazing job at articulating instructions and tips in PM's

In my opinion, it's a more efficient way to tour.

I wasn't aware I was flipping you shit. But anyhow, pretty sure I will try alpine this season, for the first time in 20+ years. Just having the urge to remember how that feels, vs tele. I'll be investing as little $$$ as possible though, knowing there's a significant chance I'll hate it (exactly what happened to a friend of mine last season - she tried it and immediately went back).

If you invest as little $ as possible then you probably won’t enjoy it, don’t settle for crappy equipment. I got an alpine setup last year, it’s fun and has it’s place, just like tele.

I get the lower back pain when I spend a significant portion of the day doing alpine turns in my tele gear but only on my Bodacious. There’s something about those skis wanting to run fast that puts my body in a bad position, presumably to prevent face planting. I can paramark all day on more playful skis or tele all day on the Bodacious without pain. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I’m doing wrong.

Of course. I’m talking about remounting some old skis I’ve got (probs nordica beast 92’s), maybe some Tyrolia attack demos, had for a song , and some used performance boots.

Yes I wouldn’t want to ruin the experience with crap gear, just don’t want to get in too deep, until I know I’m into it.

Congrats, Carrots. Perhaps it was your name (not your tele preference), which struck a vein of sympathy in our orange stained Trump.

Yesterday was my first ever AT tour. After tele'ing for what, 15+ years. Resistance free touring. Light boots. Good heel-riser settings. It was pretty radical.
the downhill ... my alpine turns on tele gear are still a language apart from yesterday's alpine turns on fixed heel.
Variable/bad snow and flat light surprises were comparatively easy to manage .. but it will take time to really figure this out.

I got good AT gear. I'll give a good effort. Gotta give this experiment a fair chance.

As I've said many times, Nordic gear for Nordic terrain, alpine gear for alpine terrain
