Brand New Gear Failure
Without naming the manufacturer, I had two pieces of brand new equipment irrevocably fail today in the backcountry. The shop is offering to investigate, but the more I think about it, the more I think a refund is in order.
Am I out of line in not wanting a replacement? Had I been in higher consequence terrain the results could have been fatal.
Don’t want to flame them online; just want my money back and I’ll go with another company without naming names. Unreasonable?

Why would you not name names? I don't want to ski that shit.

Maybe we can play 20 questions.
I'll start ... is it something other than a binding starting with the letter "M"?
In all seriousness, I respect that the OP recognizes that this might be an isolated failure, in spite of him not wanting to risk accepting a replacement.

Happy to. As the question wasn’t about a specific piece of gear, but more about what I should expect from the retailer and the manufacturer after their gear exploded after five minutes of use, I thought it pretty General.
Question stands to the folks who own or work in shops or for manufacturers: can I walk away with a refund? Could I ask for replacement with a different model? A different brand? Am I stuck waiting for them to replace the exact same defective piece and counting the seconds until it breaks.

Brand New Gear Failure
My shop would always take it back and get it warrantied/replaced if you wanted to give the brand a second chance. If not, you would just get store credit....which would allow you to do whatever you wanted, but only with something from the shop.
My second guess.....your hands got cold...you want to return your 200.00 Hestras.

Are we playing 20 questions or what? Are they blue?
Cuz if they are blue you should have got the red ones.

Not sure, I’m in the back turning screws......I avoid going out on the floor and dealing with the masses. We warranty stuff pretty easily....not often, but when we do...it’s for real reasons. I’m the one who usually confirms degree of brokenness.....We also have good relationships with the reps.
Almost all returns whether it be soft or hard goods get store credit....so I would assume it’s a pretty easy process that most shops do.

Seriously! WTF, why is OP ok with letting other mags use the same deathtrap equipment in serious terrain? Just fucking name the equipment so we can make sure to pay extra attention to it to make sure its not cracked and is working properly.
