Last month I choose cold snacks over PBR because the 12 pack was $2 less than Pabst. $10 vs $12. True story

    THIS is the green death:

as anyone of a certain age from New England will confirm. Haffenreffer Private Stock Malt Liquor. Gives me chills just typing that.

It's about the same price, usually.

I'm surprised it's outside Montana. I figured they just did makeup labels for every state. It's nearly indistinguishable from PBR anyway.

The stuff is swill. I bought a 6-pack to share for one of the outdoor summer concerts at Big Sky, and even with a bunch of skiers I had no takers. I could barely choke down one. Don't even know if I finished it. Tasted like chlorinated pool water. Started becoming kind of a running joke as the rest of the pack started magically ending up in each others fridges as we'd sneak them over when we'd hang out. Got passed around for like a year until I finally threw them out.

Fantastic marketing, awesome looking can, great name. TERRIBLE beer. I could maybe forgive it if it was like 25 or even 50 cents a can, but when its nearly the price of a PBR, then nope. If you need dirt cheap beer, look no further than Costco's "Light Beer." No joke. It's not good, but it's not too bad either! Perfect for a hot day on the river.

Around here it's about the same price as PBR, cheaper than Coors, tastes about the same as any other swill IMO, and annoys my buddy from Montana. So it's a winner in my book.

    Good tubing beer.

I think Rolling Rock is the winner when it comes to cheap, drinkable, refreshing beer. No weird aftertaste.

Montreal has it's own cheap malty beer that is actually really tasty. Locally brewed in small batches and 7 to 8 $ CDN for a 6er. It's usually priced the same as PBR. In case you are in the hood and want a good sports beer.

I can not stand the term "Montucky" and makes me want to pummel anyone who uses the word.

Also piss on their shitty beer, not even brewed in MT.

This. Or High Life. Hipsters ruined PBR years ago anyway. Cheap beer is seriously underrated these days.

Personally, I'm a Rainier drinker if I'm buying on a budget. I packed a couple cases on a river trip last summer. About day three, all the guys that brought PBR and Tecate were asking me for tradesies on my Rainier. Poor planning on their part.

Cold Snacks...meh, shit beer in a cool can. Kind of like buying a new Mustang and getting the six cylinder auto.

Haffenreffer riddle caps were so much better than Narragansett riddle caps.

How did Hipsters ruin it? Seriously.

My go to these days is High life, a 4 pack of 16 oz cans is 3.99 at the local gas station while a 6r of PBR 16oz is 5.99, basically the same price but if I have a 6 pack there is a good chance I will consume said 6 pack.

I've had a free source for PBR for many years now, so it is my go to. It actually gets rated pretty high in blind taste tests by professional brewers and wins awards frequently. Hamm's as well, and I frequently get that for free now too.

Montucky Cold Snacks is pretty basic, not bad, but not great. It is kinda similar to PBR in that it is contract brewed in a brewing facility and not at their own brewery. They are both just brands now. Montucky does have a great label that really makes you want to buy it.

I have a sense that they came up with the label before they came up with the beer... We live in an age where marketing is often more important than the actual product.
