Any Utards know what it's looking like up yonder?
I expect to be skiing when I'm back in town. Next week is Utah's average opening week for the past 20 years. Don't let me down. In fact, with only three exceptions, Utahns are always skiing within the first three weeks of November. Those three times we weren't, we had to wait until 23rd or the 25th. Let's hope that never happens again, that's horrible. ;-)
October 29th of 2004 was the earliest opening in Utah's history. Half of the openings of past 20 years were before Nov 15th. The other half were between the 16th and 25th, with an average opening date of 11/15. It is worth noting that there is no trend toward later openings in these past 20 years. Brighton was the first to open for all but three and Solitude had the coolest opening date with 11/11/11.

Right now it's very dry, but also very cold. Will be on mostly snowmaking product for at least the next 2 weeks. The good news is great snowmaking weather. It'd be a lot worse if it was 60F.
FWIW, Snowbird pushed their opening back a week.

Not looking good for the early season turns so far. Forecasting dry, but cold, conditions for the next 10 days. Sure hope the pattern changes by Thanksgiving.

my guess is alta opens next weekend if they are able to keep blowing.
My wager from this morning is they are about half way to a full ribbon on the collins side.

saw the "it just snowed" clouds hovering above little when driving the kids to sunday school yesterday so decided to get my shit and take a walk. 4" in the lot. saw a lot of peeps so headed for stonecrusher which hadn't been skied yet but saw a group of 4 above. they stopped 3/5 of the way up and party dropped it. seemed to ski decent. ski cut produced light sluff as did the first 3 turns. decent turns for november but punchy for sure.

Yep, Brighton opened yesterday, 11/15/18, right on their average opening day. As mentioned in my OP, 11/15 has been Utah's average opening date for the past 20 years. Thanks mostly to Brighton, btw.
I went back and looked at my records and 11/15 has actually been the average opening date for 30 years, not just 20. I'd have to go through too many basement boxes to research more than those 30 years, which I'm not in a hurry to do."Don't bug me, granny. I don't dig slick chicks trying to goof me up." --Tragg

Endless is The Best.
You're out skiing some random day in Utah and meet this guy, the most unassuming middle-aged Toyota Camry of a skier...right....no flash. Then you ski with him and he's a god damn NASCAR 1500 horsepower monster truck of a skier. It was amazing. I was trying to lose him in lines I skied everyday, he's taking his first run in there and I'm holding him back. Friggin monster truck.
I'm not surprised he has a vault of ski stats. It's so awesome.
Dude is so awesome.
