So the drone v skier race, the drone gets to cut through the gates? I did like the snowboard chick's response

Any info. on why that drone crashed? Remember when that happened. Could have been really bad.

With that many spectators in close proximity, the protocol is to self ground (aka crash) if they loose signal/control to the drone.
The operator had a "quick" loss of contact (or signal interference) a few runs earlier, and did not classified it as threat and dismissed it. During Hirschers run the operators lost signal/interference again for a quick moment, and this time decided for the safety of everyone he should self ground the drone. The operator though he was way behind Hirscher, but as the skier came over the knoll and slowed up for the flush set of the gates, the drone made ground on the skier and was almost right above him when the self ground maneuver was performed.
A specific flight path to the skiers left, and not directly over the skier was decided and approved before the race. As the race progressed, the flight path was not strictly followed, and ended up with the camera shots directly overtop of the skier.

I learned something...I never knew there was such a thing a drone racing.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

If you can find a local club they often have extra headsets so you can do a "fly along," which is really the best way to experience it. I dabble in fps drone flying (for shits and giggles) and it feels like you're in a spaceship flying around.
TLDR; Ski faster. Quit breathing. Don't crash.
