This .
Lost count of the number of times I have seen accidents on the way up there in cars with old tires or driving too fast in 2wds. Driving up to City League one night a few years ago I was in my AWD Suv with snow tires going up the hill on I90 after Franklin Falls and this guy looked like he was trying to race me in his Honda minivan. I was really worried that he was going to crash so I sped up a bit and got 2 lanes over and sure enough he lost control and took out 3 cars right behind me.License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations

I'm training.
For the first time in 30 years I bought some tire chains this summer; from the thrift store, brand new. And I practiced putting them on.
Because nothing is gonna keep me away from BBI19 alpy.
'Specially not some chain requirements.

Stoked about this forecast! Maybe all the rain nuked the hoar frost? I drive a fat old slow subie with snow tires and got stuck in the hayak parking lot. It was a complete gongshow and I would have been able to escape if I had chains (debatable) , but that's what I tell myself and now I own them. I'm glad Officer George Green is cracking down because a lot of drivers learn stuff through denial and error by crashing out.

Spectacularly reactive at High 2 today. Almost turned to rain in the middle of the day. More liquid snow than solid rain. Bring wide skis and lots of wax along with your chains if you want to fight the crowds for flat hot pow tomorrow. In good news, it finally looks like winter up there.
Skier compaction is good for the base.

Vail/Stevens has decided to disallow employees from skiing Saturday morning.
Not sure how if feel about that.Do what you like. Try not to arbitrarily be an ass. -- skizix

While a shit policy, I don’t think there would be many ski area employees who work there with the intent to ski Saturday mornings, or that plan too, unless work requires them to.
Could be wrong though. Might poll a couple today while we wait in a chain enforcement check point.

I'm really looking forward to dealing with guest services instead of skiing at Stevens on Saturday. It's been two weeks since I called their office when I was told that my "new" pass has been printed but is being mailed from Colorado, not from Leavenworth as my wife's pass was. Completely dysfunctional. Vail waits til Nov. 29th to publically inform non-epic pass holders that their passes are no longer valid.

Who's gonna be at Alpy this season midweek (tues-wed)?
It appears Vail has no interest in being a part of the PNW ski community and is determined to throw a wrench in my midweek plans, so I think I'm gonna make the extra 30-minute drive on occasion. Some days I'll have the wife in tow, but others I'll be flying solo and it would be cool to have a knowledgeable local show me around. Happy to do the same at the Windy.

...because we need something to lean skis against (besides ❄️banks) on opening day Digging out from 13 inches of fresh in the last 24 hours and 19 inches in the last 48. Couldn't be sweeter with opening weekend just ahead. As of this a.m., 28 degrees at the base and still snowing. Conditions report: packed powder + powder YEAH

Toured Hyak today and it was a bit sticky but nice to be able to tour at the pass. Beware of serious snow snakes. I skied through a loop of cable buried in the snow. Ski released but man I got lucky. I dug down a bit to make it visible to other skiers.
