I am constantly surprised by the laissez faire attitude of resorts out here in the PNW towards dangerous (non avalanche) snow conditions and terrain dangers. From refrozen avi-debris completely covering open runs, to unmarked rocks in main runs, to unmarked open creeks and holes in and directly next to main beginner groomers.
And then there is my favorite: fumerols at Bachelor that are gently marked with a single bamboo pole. My GF (who rips) actually fell in one one her first lap on her first day there a couple years ago... I had to hurridly sidestep back up to find her starfished at the lip of the hole struggling to not fall in all the way. Turns out, thinking you are falling into a damn volcano will make your planking abilities world class.
Don't get me wrong, i personally don't have a problem with this attitude by the resorts. It is just surprising to me given how sue-happy the country is, and how danger-proofed i see resorts are in other parts of the country. But then again, the PNW ski areas have a much rougher edge to them and the clientele seems to embrace the more rugged, natural vibe.

Don’t ski in Europe if the PNW “ski areas” are too gnar for ya.
They aren’t “resorts” here.

We’re not full California, yet.

Hopefully is right! The awesome sunrises and sunsets have at least been a bit of a consolation prize for the shit ski conditions. I'm ready for some snow though!

Lots of idiots on my commute into the city this morning. Tesla stuck on the university bridge was the highlight.
Be careful out there. Lots of people with no idea how to drive in the snow.

Yea. Fuck that shite. Working from home today.
Snoqualmie/North Bend we got like 12 inches and still snowing.
Pass only reporting 2 inches.
The snow event decided to stay below 2k

This is that good driving snow too! 23 deg, nice dry packed and not that usual slush we get here.

Where it wasnt packed or plowed it drove nice this morning at lake level on the eastside. But it got real slick real quick wherever the plows had pushed off the top 4" of fluff to leave a 1"-2" layer of clear ice. Very much a gong show, and im sure i missed most of it getting in to work just before 7am. Plowing without the sanding is not the best for the commute.

Glad I decided to bail from Palmer last night around 11:00, got fresh tracks over Tiger Summit. Although I suppose my reward is being one of two people in the office. On second thought, should have called in "snowy."
