For as much of a junk show as the parking and road were at Crystal yesterday, I wasn't waiting in much of a line anywhere. The Chair 6 rope drop just before 10 a.m. had maybe 20 people in line. Click image for larger version.

Everyone has a stupid; a thing they adore that doesn't make sense to anyone else but our own experiences. I got my favorite stupid today, cold flakes in the face, deep, steep, classical gas fun.

Source lake basin skied nicely today 6-12" of light on top of a supportive crust, did a lap on the snow lake side then a lap from pineapple. The crowds were out in mass in the dog park and I am never not amazed by how unprepared the snow-shoers are in avalanche terrain.

I met a porcupine a little lower down from here. Not pictured sadly; I fumbled my phone badly, lost a glove in the process, and was slow enough on the draw for him to waddle away all nonchalant (he looked fat as hell, they must bulk for the winter.) First time seeing one in the wild, kinda crazy to think of them living inbounds. Getting quilled isn't a risk I've ever associated with skiing...

Mine is walking out the ridge with a stiff wind, low visibility, and snow rushing over my feet into the valley as I look back over my shoulder hoping there is just one other person there to share this experience.

That is pretty cool. I swear I saw one crossing the road in my rear view mirror out on the Tulalip res years ago but couldn’t be 100% sure.

Arrived with low expectations, left with high stoke and bashed legs. Helluva day, even if PNW wasn't the gondola fantasy I'd originally planned for the day.....

High 2 was a mixed bag today. Crowds were manageable and lodges were zoos. Some pockets left over from yesterday’s mobbing. Backside skied surprisingly soft. Trees were a bit crunchy and mostly dust on crust but amazing views and good friends made it a great way to say goodbye to 2018.

Here is Bandit Jr admiring that yellow orb sitting in the bluest of blue skies.

PNW Mags - bit of a jong question, but what is cell signal like in the Crystal parking lots? On business travel this weekend into next week, and hoping to play a bit of hooky on Monday to hit Crystal, but I need to take a web conference call in the morning. Hoping the LTE signal is strong enough for an hour of WebEx...
