I’m not living in the NW full time this winter but if I see an early thread you will all get webcam images from OCT 2004 and March 2005.

You gotta ski it. At Pass Level, with all signs indicating the snow is here to stay.

I visited this weekend and walked past 8000ft to ski. Relax.

Agreed. I subscribe to the AngrySasquatch (RIP) definition of when the new season starts: skin from/ski back to your car, and the entire tour has to be on snow that fell this season.

What's the PNW equivalent of the "Steenburgh Winter?"

That's a good question, but IMO not applicable to the issue of starting a new thread. I assume most of us are willing to deal with pretty bony conditions to consider the season has started. If anyone had been at the Windy Hill on Sept 28, we'd have a new thread by now. Everyone I know who was in town and skied it was stoked on the skiing.

The start of Steenburgh winter does not depend on the calendar. It starts the first day the Collins observing site at Alta hits a 100" snow depth. Why? Because that is when there is sufficient snow depth that most of the Wasatch is skiable without dealing with rocks and bony conditions... Steenburgh winter ends on Feb 10 because powder skiing is also influenced by the sun.

Is there a similar, consistent measure in the PNW that you could assume most of the skiing is acceptable?

I-90 EB is closed @ MP 47 west of Snoqualmie Pass due to spinouts & vehicles blocking lanes. Its snowing on the pass & snow & slush on the road.

Either somebody got bored and added the coloring and watermark or somebody got tired of adding the coloring and watermark in 92/93?

I know that top shack life is a scintillating one. They at least used to give you a sniff test out trashcan.

I'll bitch here in an effort to keep this coming winter's thread positive, as it should be. But fuck WSDOT and the NPS. The population and tax base of this state have increased drastically, while pass-level snowfall has flagged due to climate change, but those lazy, worthless, cocksucking, mouth breathing assholes can't be bothered to keep a couple of passes open year-round in 2019 that they did 50 years ago?

That's your classic western Washington lip-service liberalism right there: "Ooh, the homelessness is tragic, state agencies are critically understaffed and underpaid, and our infrastructure is inadequate to deal with half the number of people who currently live here. But you want to raise my taxes? Fuck you, how dare you, I hardly pay a cent, but I still pay too much."

As they spend 3 hours idling in soul crushing traffic to get from Bellevue to Redmond in a Land Cruiser that only see double-digit MPG's on the annual road trip.
