They also constitute a really really high proportion of trail riders in my experience. Anecdotal, but it's so lopsided I can imagine that it isn't at least 65-70% of recreational trail riders in actuality.

The other factor that might not be considered is that today social media is ubiquitous for nearly everyone and there are many more types of common interest groups out there online for things like skiing. For example today there are multiple Facebook groups for mountain biking alone in my region. ~10 years ago that was not the case, which made places like this much more unique in the internet.

I am not trying to blatantly degrade or demean women or condone such behavior, but again, I don't think TGR is all that unique in the lack of women posters. It is not the only forum that I have been a member of that has a porn section or thread, and men are fairly predictable; there will always be a subset that push boundaries more than others, and there will always be a smaller subset that do more than just push boundaries. Even TTips, which strived to be the most inclusive women-friendly site I have ever posted at, had very few women regulars. Acting like the lack of female posters here is a direct result of the unique behavior this place, and not something more broadly demographic or societal, is naive.

Are more men than women into skiing and particularly the kind of skiing that TGR promotes? yes. Is the lack of female posters on the TGR message boards related to this? yes. Is the lack of female posters related to the actually rather non-unique behaviour of this place? Also yes.

The ladies forum seems alive and well.
