    TR: a week in Bellingham

I hadn't touched my bike for 2 months. The doctor said I could ride but that I'm not allowed to crash. Why not spend a week in Bellingham riding some fun trails.

Mostly it was foggy, rainy and moody. Which is really perfect biking weather but occasionally we got some blue sky and views.

    trees, lots of big trees

    the dirt was pretty ok

Got a couple of night rides in. And also some day rides where lights were needed.

ate well and way too much

There's only 12 or 13 breweries in town so it can be hard to find a beer

This used to just be a quick stop on the way to Whistler for me but things are pretty good in Bellingham. Felt like I had only scratched the surface after a week there.

I was looking for jobs and houses. The job part seems to be the challenge.

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. It could be ok if there was more trails to ride other than Evo and U-line.

Looks like you found Cougar Ridge. I used to own a house at the base of it. Great riding.

Nothing but loam and endless free ride trails in Utah. I had the hankering to ride some boring trails in an ugly forest so I headed north.

Lots of locals complaining but it was still my favorite trail of the trip. Obviously I don’t know what it was like before but it definitely didn’t ruin it for me.

Yeah. Its a cool flow trail now. It just use to be pretty techy and raw. Kinda funny I fucked my shoulder up crashing on a corner right before they went to town on it and I cant even figure out what corner it was.

Not sure if you rode el Diablo, the big rock roll, but the ride around use to be right before it. It was steep and loose and not easy but also not out of line with the rest of the trail... so they piled a bunch of crap and made the old ride around completely unridable and then rerouted the trail way before so people following their buddies or wanting to check it out and then not wanting to ride it have to back track up some steep parts that arent super great to back track.

Cougar Ridge was an old classic and now just about anyone can ride it.

Its part of the big expansion and linking Galby to Lookout mountain so I see why they did it. Its just sad to see the old trail lose its character, but thats kind of the way trails seem to evolve...

No crashes! I rode pretty scared the whole trip, the rainy days (most of them) were pretty exciting. I'm 5 or 6 weeks out from getting a plate, 10 screws and some donor bone in my shoulder to hold my collarbone together.

Wait, didn't you break it like 4 months ago? Second surgery? Damn, riding 6 weeks out from a bone graft is bold!
