    Happy Halloween

We treated 72 kids last night. About average.

Not a single one. Neighborhood kids are getting older, they want to go where the houses are closer together and I can't blame them, the place would suck to trick or treat in on an ROI basis.

One group, 8 small kids and parents right at 6p. Bam done!

Then, we went out to a place that was kid-free.

My own spawn is a teenager now and spent the evening with friends making fun of each other and seeing who would give them candy without costumes.

We had the whole neighborhood w kids over pre trick or treat for soup, salad bread then out en mass. Probably 14 kids and parents. Great time.

We have never had a TorTer come to our house. It's kind of rural here with less than a house per 5 acres and we have a long, unlit, dark woods ensconsed driveway.

First-timer took a few tries before getting the "trick or treat" line down without coaching. Then the hood was thoroughly farmed. "No dad, stay back, I can do it myself." Age two.

Neighbor dude parked a sick hearse on the street. Pics don't do it justice... skeleton in the driver's seat, mannequin under a sheet in the back.

Numbers seemed slightly down from last year - didn’t break the 200 mark. The young ones are the best, not quite understanding what’s going on, but hey, candy! Thankfully the rain stopped for the eve.
Our’s at 6 was in full gather mode, brought home almost as much as we gave out. No evidence of tricksters that I could see this AM; the hound seems mostly recovered from the eve’s fireworks shows.

I tried to make it home from doing ski trail work but only got back as it was winding down. On a back street any way.

Now I got a big ass bag o candy to eat until next year.

Fog and strobe light added ambiance after it got dark. Kids are in high school now. We probably got about 30 kids total, encouraging them to hit us again as we saw them going past the 2nd or 3rd time. None of them tried to double bag us on their own without being invited back. Still have enough candy left to take care of the Christmas stockings with.. WIN!

We haven't had any TorTers since leaving the midwest, but then we've always lived sort of rural.

When I lived in WI, our neighborhood (mostly 6-acre lots) would gather all the kids together on a huge hay-ride wagon, towed by a tractor, and go house-to-house all at once. It was great; just a big party and we got it over with in ten minutes per house. Coolers of beer for the adults, who would join the caravan after their houses got hit. It ended at the tractor owner's house, where a bonfire and party raged on. Good times.

That hearse looks straight out of the original Phantasm movie.. one of the first movies I saw at a drive in theater.. ya, I'm that old. One thing I noticed today on my walk which surprised me some is that in 3 miles of strolling a big loop around the neighborhood, I didn't see a single pumpkin smashed in the street. Today's generation is such a disappointment!

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
