I broke the frame on my Altitude, so I’ve spent the time I would of been riding pulling parts from my parts stash and rebuilding this.

Is that a threaded quill stem? Yikes.

That thing needs, nay, deserves, a Hite Rite.

Hahahaha - that was one of those "carbon before carbon was cool" frames. Geezus. Giant Cadex - haven't seen one of those since the early 90's.

What year is that frame? '91?

I thought about Bramas, but decided to leave them in the bucket. Yes, it was state of the art in its time.

I have an 86 specialized rock hopper hanging in the shed with a Tange front fork. It’s next. Stepping on these makes you realize how far technology has come.

Sweet Cadex. Lusted after one of them. The guy that opened the little shop in our town had one in 1993.

Shimano 500 cranks. XTR front and back derailleurs and hubs. Mavic Ceramic rims.

I had to compromised on the shifters and go with some Shimano 8 speed cheap things. The old XTR wouldn't index anymore, and I didn't want to buy used. The Judy that is on it is actually from a newer bike. It came with a gold one that is still in the shed, but I didn't want to redo the seals. Those old ones went out every time they touched Moab moon dust.

Are the carbon tubes still bonded to the lugs? ... many a cadex died a Premature death that way.

Its a sweet hardtail. I have a mid 90's look MTB frame that I have keep rolling as a spare and I really enjoy it on the trails still to this day.

Come on, man - you OWE it to that bike to find some old DX friction thumb-shifters. Those things were the bomb.

    .
It is still in one piece, and my Altitude isn’t. It was ridden hard and never had a problem.

. Have you tried them lately? I put them on and it literally hurt to shift. Man I’m a pansy!
