Cool. I have flushed several grouse with my skis through the years. Shooting them would be one thing but taking one out with a ski pole would be bad ass bc skills.

Ptarmigans are kind of like pigeons and will sit until you ski over them and then move ten feet away. Grouse always make me jump taking off ten feet away and gone, not sure how anyone gets one with a gun.

Don't touch the wildlife. I "rescued" 3 baby racoons under my deck. We could hear them for days but didn't know what the sound was until I looked under the deck. Mother racoon was probably hit by a car or something as they were obviously very hungry. We took them to what we thought was a wildlife rehab center. A while later a letter came from the state pathologist informing us that the racoons tested negative for rabies. The only way to test is to euthanize them. The pathologist told us he had to test them for rabies because we had handled them.

Unfortunately, the only way to be sure is to take a brain tissue sample from the animal. If you wait for the disease to incubate to where it's detectable in humans, it's too late.

I learned a pro tip. Put your frozen honey stinger waffle on top of your cup of hot tea and wait a few minutes and BAM warm gooey sticky radness.

Lawrence Valley into the Adirondacks, 8-16" across the Champlain

It could be madness up there this weekend, but as long as the lot is plowed and you get there by 9-9:30, you should be fine.

I actually like the social aspect of skiing at Brandon Gap, but I’m glad it’s not my local and I can avoid crowds when I wish.

Yeah, the dome of cold dry air is going to push all the snow south into the Boston area. The mountains are going to get 2" of fluff that will proceed to blow into Canada. Meanwhile the hoards will be descending for the holiday weekend and we will have to listen to them wonder where all of the snow is since they just got 4' in their back yard and then bitch about how icy and cold it is here in the mountains.
