That's crazy, I might have been standing right next to you and didn't know it. I was taking a pic of Whiteface in the distance. There were 12 cars in the parking lot at 9:30AM. My wife and I were visiting from California and it was her first time there. I was there last in the mid 70's but can't remember much about it because I was 10 or so.
Wow, I love that place. I skied every run on the single chair and learned some new techniques. I know this is going to sound cheesy to eastern regulars, but MRG teaches you to up your aggressiveness or it's going to be a long run. Props to you guys that duck into the trees. I'm used to more widely spaced trees and that looks horrifying. There are also ice falls all over the place which adds to the excitement.
We had good days at Sugarbush and Stowe as well. It's a big commitment to fly to Burlington to ski, but we hope to make it back some day.
Be especially interesting if the gradients aloft result in serious icing, which I've seen suggested as a possibility, between a holiday weekend, serious snowfall potential hype, power outage potential and crap driving conditions. I'm hoping I'm just being pessimistic and the forecast will shake out on the better side, but I don't think we're going to know until this weekend.
Nice to be back on the storm jonesing trips after the December hiatus. Woods in Maine still holding good pow and this next storm could really set it off. Ripped empty pow runs at Black last Friday and talking vitamin I hoping to calm down a knee before hitting it again.
Was just gifted this little pearl while riding the orange bubble with Jerry and his brother Jerry. About “uncle bob” ... “you can tell he’s not very good because he doesn’t ski with his feet locked together like we do.” NOW I know why I suck.
Oh, and since I know you are all dying to hear the outcome that bear cub was rescued by fish and game with an assist from the MCSB patrol today.
Noice.
Had a situation similar to that at Rumney. Momma got hit by a vehicle and the lone cub hung around the campground. I was up there for the AAC craggin classic and first saw it when I mounted the berm on the river to wash up at night. It was only 30<ft away and I was wondering where momma was(found out later what happened). The cub stayed surprisingly close throughout the night. Even with 100+ people and a decent sized bonfire.
He probably wanted to be petted.

Don't touch the wildlife. I "rescued" 3 baby racoons under my deck. We could hear them for days but didn't know what the sound was until I looked under the deck. Mother racoon was probably hit by a car or something as they were obviously very hungry. We took them to what we thought was a wildlife rehab center. A while later a letter came from the state pathologist informing us that the racoons tested negative for rabies. The only way to test is to euthanize them. The pathologist told us he had to test them for rabies because we had handled them.
wow that's awful. couldn't they gave tested those that handled the babies?
gotta wonder if these folks look for excuses to euthanize.
props to you for trying to give them a chance.
^^^^ baby killer!
Circle of life, the only negative of the “man”killing your attempt at kindness is some predator missed a good meal.
Keeping with the animal death and in skiing related theme. I went BC skiing with my wife’s co worker one day. At the trailhead he pops the trunk to his car, pulls out a tied garbage bag, and straps it to his bag. Just when I’m about to ask what’s in the trash bag, he turns and says “cat had cancer, so I shot it this morning. Wife didn’t want me to leave it in our woods where our dog might find it. If you don’t want to see it I suggest you break trail.” The guy was a true redneck, he also skied with a handgun and hunted ptarmigans on the up tracks for dinner.
I learned a pro tip. Put your frozen honey stinger waffle on top of your cup of hot tea and wait a few minutes and BAM warm gooey sticky radness.
