Had a couple good days poking around the woods near Jay w non mag Ansel.

Real nice out there! Was dumping pretty hard when we left. Tomorrow should be sweet in that area.

Got out for a three hour tour from the house. Made it to an old ski route cut around 90 years ago by Nathanial Goodrich and his buddy Charles Blood, the first 2 men to document a skin and ski of Mansfield, although Blood was on snow shoes. Later in the tour we skied an aspect with no trimming, south facing below 1600 ft and it was sublime. Now is the time to find those obscure low elevation zones with good pitch that are never in
    .....because they are now.

Was there today, too. The skiing was awesome, the wind on the freezer... not so much!

Very nice Dave, Teardrop looks good, but I thinks it has been trimmed.

A small group of locals may have done some reclamation in the last few years. Used to be a cabin at the top of the line complete with stove biting burned down sometime around 1950 I believe. You couldnatill find the stove until a hemlock fell on it a while back.

Good times on the west side of the spine. Still some open water to manage as a result of the last thaw but good coverage overall and great settled pow with little crust interference.

I may be off, but we called the area gendarmes in the late 90’s/ early 00’s. Parking became problematic after some new homes/ home owners. Used to be a very nice network of hiking trails and x-c trails, a few that led right to the summit ridge before the GMC closed them. If the spot I’m thinking is correct, it was the first time I ever met a person that split a snowboard and slapped on a pair of tele bindings. It was a game changer moment for me and a few friends began ripping old boards and throwing bindings on them.

Sounds like a different area. No trail closures or gmc activity there, private land.

Funny when it happens to somebody else. Not so funny when you're the guy
