-12 and windy bob, -21 summit

So much stoke out there from this storm. Some of the lower snowfall totals derived from the lower ratio snow than originally forecast. The snow was dense and skied deep but was stuff prone. I got flushed on Redline in the dogleg cliff section when the whole face release. Be careful in the Notch and or other steep areas.

Props to MNIAW for the prime room in the Circle, timed it right after cooking breakfast to walk over for a ticket and got in line as first general public skier.

Seeing and hearing about Stowe yesterday. LOL. 2 hours in traffic from Moscow to the bottom of Harlow Hill.
I think they need more marketing....
Guy parked and skinned to the Mtn from the HS. Imagine living there and trying to get to work?
    Shark=Jumped. Go Vail.
The base depth has reached "Ski anywhere" hoping it sets up a little to really lock in the teeth.

Add Castlerock to the wind hold list.

Also watched the line guards getting blown over on the webcam. They don't have much surface area.

Fuck that. I skied Stowe for years and don’t feel bad about bailing before Vail took over.

Warner temps Thursday will solidify the base around here for weeks to come.

-10 here and snowing lightly. Thinking about a local PM skin if the wind doesn’t pick up but sitting on my couch and drinking beer in front of the fire also sounds good.

    NE Roll Call 18/19

Are the mountains open today? Saw Jay and Killington both -16F, windchill -35F.
I remember small mountain in Minnesota (Afton Alps) closed one time due to dangerously cold temperature... I think windchill was -50F.

I don’t get skinning to the Mtn. I mean you have skins, you know it’s a clusterfuck, why not just hit the BC?

Wildcat will be CLOSED on Monday, January 21, 2019 due to forecasts calling for extreme cold and high winds. While we know many of you have Monday off for the MLK Jr. Holiday it is in the safety of you our guests, our staff, and our equipment that we have decided to close.

Monday’s temperatures are predicted to be -15 to -20 below zero at the summit, with winds forecasted to be between 35 - 50 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. These conditions will combine to make wind chills simply unbearable for any amount of time spent outdoors.

Sister resort - Attitash will be open and we plan to be back open Tuesday, with 100% of our terrain open and 17" of snow from this last storm.

Stay Wild friends. For more information visit - skiwildcat.com/snow-report

We’ll see you later in the week!

Cannon was firing yesterday. Windhold to start so I stayed at Mittersill and had fresh laps all day. Wind hold this morning, sub zero temps and patriots hangover combine for a slow start.

All kidding aside, the traffic issue at Stowe has rapidly degraded in recent years. You have to think the town is gonna have issue from a safety point-of-view. Fires. Ambulances. Can't really widen the road...

It’s only the lower mountain lifts that are open. Everything else is on wind hold... But still, stuff just breaks when it’s this cold.

You'd be surprised at how uncrowded MLK Monday can be at most hills. Of course, today, you're only going to see the crazy and desperate with these conditions, but I've been out there the past four or five years on this day and always remarked, where the fuck is everybody, since they hyped it up so much and even blacked it out on some passes. Most of the family gaper biz is eating brunch and driving home.
IKON isnt even blacking out today on my basic pass. Not that it matters.

I'm pretty convinced that is why Killington closed last year on that Saturday. That was the tail end of that brutal two week deep freeze, and some lifts around New England started breaking. Imagine getting stuck on a chair for an hour, a fully loaded lift, in those conditions. Fatal for some. The lawyers shake their heads.

Yesterday at Burke (I only took the camera out on two runs since it was snowing so hard it was getting all over my lens making it hard to take clear photos):

    Nice Burke pix!

Today I took the 3-pin gear into the woods, tracked a half K loop and got some laps. Went out in the open but my feet got cold in my old Tele-Lights..done.
This helped with the warming process:
