Figgerd this be teh best place to ask...
Thinking of heading up to vacayland in 2 weeks for some backpacking(maybe climbing). Was thinking of wandering around bigelow preserve/flagstaff lake. From what I could or couldn't find, walk-in camping without a reservation is ok. Any need-to-know's from the resident ME mags?
^^ round barn preserve on Flagstaff lake is good. There’s a great site in the bigelow preserve on Stratton Brook Pond, right near the fire wardens trail.
I’ve saw on FB (maybe last week) some people making mid-July turns. Any recent info on what is left other than via the webcam.
Also wondering if there is any chance of the extremely rare Eastern August turns?
Currently on vacation, but coming back on July 31.

Bugs are not gone! I’ve never seen deer flies like this year, ever.

Deer flies were horrendous at Magic last weekend. This weekend they have tapered to a mere nuisance. Couple more weeks and then it will be game on to get into the woods.
Still have black, deer and some horse flies MRV.
This looks like fun, Rally Cars, helicopters and machine guns, what could go wrong.

Green head on a shovel here in So VT. Never seen them here before.
Edit - pic upload not working on the app today?
Those mid July turns looked surprisingly legit. Skiing for the sake of skiing for sure, but far from the usual July 4 snow arch sketchiness.
I'm thinking about Thursday, since I've never skied in August out east.
Plus would be hilarious to end my ski season out here after thinking I had wrapped it up on Friday.
Need to get some beta though first...
End of ride today, as soon as I was out of the woods and rolling slow, deer flies swarmed in like a group of Zeros. Trust me that my 3rd ride unwashed kit was not perfumed nor had I doused myself in Axe.
Also washing the car and felt something land on my arm. Before I could turn my head to see what is was, I got bitten by one of those invasive faux ladybugs.

Yep, same here. I’m flying from France in end of day Wednesday and Thursday would be impossible as we are picking up our pets.
Here is an old TR from FTO, August 2001.
