I went down and almost stabbed myself in the heart once on a stick like that, so maybe body armour?

I was skiing with some friends in the wood box at mrg not long after the 98 ice storm. One of them went down on a yellow birch branch hidden by snow and ended up with a 3” diameter piece 6” in his thigh. Just missed his femoral artery and he fully recovered.

Sunday morning reading the current issue of The Ski Journal by the fire... did you backcountry Vermonsters just get called out? “... for decades, skiers have illegally carved out backcountry zones across the state without a viable alternative other than resort skiing.” From my outsiders perspective it sounds like they want to streamline and homologate the backcountry in VT?

You should be careful of the hatful speech. I believe that you have crossed line even by TGR standards. I am offended and want an apology

Hey, MRG harnessed the inbounds cutters, now the lines are maintained via Mountain Work Days. Pretty much every summer a new line gets opened by the MWD crew. The forest regen program is carried out by the same crews. Why shouldn't the community at large use some like strategy?

Forestry and watershed management bundled in with backcountry planning could go a long way to preserve the forests and possibly curtail landslide issues.

No just a little payback to the General for a stupid comment he made about me a few pages back
Back to skiing. The bush north on Saturday easy parking and no lines. The Castle Rock chair was empty all afternoon and except for a bit of ice at the base of the moguls was a blast and a great workout. I forgot how great a run Rumble is and the woods were soft.
    No pungi sticks seen

Challenging tour in the Taconics today. 3k’ vert felt significantly heavy.

Amazing that right across the valley, it’s low tide as we skied dust on crust until over 2900’.

Lots of animal tracks out there. The firm snow must make it easy for them to travel.

We decided to take the long way around and got deep in the spruce thickets, until we decided to climb back up to 3400’ and take the half pipe back out.

And we did some half pipe on the way out as well, tricky after the last melt. Taconics looking good.

A little late, but I laughed.
