-If you don't know the mountain @ snowbird be careful following "random locals" through goat paths in the trees at mach looney. They may end abruptly in a 50 ft mandatory huck that the local hits switch but makes you shit your pants. This applies at any mountain while following dantheman
-Voile strap in pocket or wrapped around ski pole. Multiples in touring pack. Maybe the single most versatile tool ever created? Never leave home without one.
-Spare goggles in the car, boot bag, wherever. All it takes is one beater putting snow behind your lense to make a foggy experience for the rest of your day. Oh and I tend to forget my goggles so having spare is key. All my friends are acutely aware of my foible and bring spare pairs to save my ass.
-Get all your shit together the night before a pow day or tour. Encourage your crew to do the same. Everyone hates that guy who makes you wait 10 to 15 minutes getting their shit together to leave when you are trying to beat the road closure up LCC. For some reason I cannot fucking sleep if I haven't done this so I might as well.

Another way to put grip below the main grips on your pole is to reuse the tape off your road bike bars , the stuff showing may be worn but the stuff under the wrap is still good so just wrap it with the unworn side showing and wrap bottom to top (so you don't pull against the overlap) and secure ends with electricians tapeLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

Only applies when riding Chair 2 though. Never had that problem anywhere else oddly....
Bring bag of tools in the front seat and wear a neon construction worker type of sweatshirt to get cops to let you through road closures because you "just got the call to go work on the downed powerlines".
a thick (non cotton) bandana or neck gaiter regulates your temperature nearly as well as an extra layer. Clutch for hour long lift lineups where its cold but don't want to overdress for when you do start skiing.
When the lift sign says to keep your tips up, its not actually necessary... till it is and you become THAT jackass

Yeah, but only for a run or two. I usually do a quick scrape to get the thick coating of wax off, but i dont really worry about really making sure its clean or god forbid bushing and corking the base.
I sometimes just rub some cold wax on the base and then give it a quick run up a down with the iron to melt it in a bit and call it good.
Gotta watch out for the wax droplets on the edges though, that shit will make your first few turns awfully scary.

It might not give you the immediate performance, but it will protect the bases, and, if done enough, make them much faster than dry bases. I waxed without scraping 100+ days in one season and by mid-season, the bases were permeated. Amazing the shape they were in considering the mileage.

well if you don't hit anything the bases just go white but i don't believe a skiff of wax will protect against damage form hitting rocks or sticks

Don't wear a pack lift skiing. Food, water and safety supplies go in ski jacket.
Floor mats provide traction if spinning on ice to get you out of the parking space.

When I want to be left alone on the mountain I start calling people gapers and jongs and mention the TGR forum.

Need a grip below the grip, get athletic tape, friction tape or hockey tape; attach just below the grip, twist the tape to make it like rope, spiral down and back up the pole to make a crosshatch pattern then cover with more tape. Basically like taking the top of a hockey stick.

Thank you my brotha, that took fucking forever.
I agree with PNWB, weak ass thread. Coupla good ideas, coupla ancient tricks and a little common sense. Lotsa snowflake fixes.
No scraping? Well, you'll be last.
Skigee at ten below? why?
Instant coffee? fuck me.
Strap issues? get training jello.
Cat trax, locks!, warmers...
I'm 53, to me a hack is a terminally blue lifelong skier.
