Haines heli 3/14-18/2019: A rittre ronery

I made an insanely financially ill advised decision but almost certainly worthwhile decision yesterday: I booked the heli in Haines in March. Celebrating halfway point in residency and keeping my wife around for the first yr! “Book it and ask questions later”, heh...

Will be pretty much 6 yr anniversary of last heli and I am STOKED. Already in better physical shape than I’ve been in a long time, so it was to my dismay to discover I can’t convince anyone else to make the same ill advised purchase.

I am, thus, a rittre ronery. Calling you out j wow.

I’m doing the ski bum executive package for 3/14 to 3/18. Terrified of going alone and ending up in a group that wants to get “suboptimally rad”. I’m sure it’s impossible to have a bad time but I’m going for something very specific: a tight sphincter.

    Anybody interested?

    other than that
    id take my wife
she can hang in heli terrain

    Five days in Haines?

Sounds awfully risky. I would not go for less than two weeks. Ten days are minimum IMHO. I have been skunked out for five days straight before. But hopefully I'm wrong and you will have a killer time!

We scored big last time, flying for out of five days. Hoping to get at least two! I think I might try to stick around for a six day just to maximize chances I’m getting the goods.

    Anybody else interested?

I'm assuming you're bringing touring gear and stopping in Juneau? If so, I can drag you out for a tour on Douglas Island or the mainland if you have extra time.

I'll be there with a crew from March 9 until March 23. We will be the Norwegian crew, so should be easy to recognize. Maybe we bump into each other in town, if so, say hello and let's have some beers

I got skunked on a 6 day trip in March 2 years ago. Well, not skunked... we flew one day and "skied" some flat wind buff that you had to skate and push across. Got unlucky with the weather. Super high winds for days caused major wind slab issues. Hope you get lucky - if I were to go back (which is doubtful), I'd definitely allocate more than a week.

Buy trip insurance. They will reimburse you for unused heli time.

Appreciate the reality check. I’m trying to add on a 6th day to ward off evil spirits...

Yet another difficulty of being a resident: never possible to take off more than a week at a time.

    See u up there, LiveLarger!

    What company do you suggest?
This would be helpful as most of the options we are looking at have prepaid heli time.

I'm also interested in this. Particularly one that will sell insurance to European citizens or a company over here. It seems that the us insurance companies are better at this than the European counterparts.

Welp. Blowing out the knee didn't help.

So we're rescheduling. Shooting for similar dates March 2021. Alaska Heliskiing again.

    Interested?
