Strong winds yesterday afternoon, free refills on Stonecrusher.
10:15 start 1:00 drop in from the Turkey. SW facing was warm and snow badly balling on ski bases. SE facing was still dry. Real aesthetic out there today.
10 day qpf is grim

Got 18 runs in at Brighton on Wednesday. Worked out really well. Got a $25 lift ticket for donating some old ski clothes followed by powder and refills all day long. There were some lift issues, but doesn't the most part we used the time to break and recover to keep on skiing. Fun times.

Taking the five year old up for her last week of ski lessons. I think she is almost ready for "real" ski days that don't involve endless bunny hill laps. Btw for anyone whose got little ones. Brighton ski school is A+.

Alta Periph tour in the morning. Braap machines got a lot of dry fork but the farmers still made right of it.
Sunset Saddle was nice. A bit of a wind skin for the first two turns.
Lots of sun on the ridge to Tuscarora. Wolvie shoulder still has sharks lurking. The run down to Alf's skied great.
Afternoon Country Lane
Frozen gloves got a little cold
220cm probe didn't find the bottom. Makes me think I should get a bigger probe.
Snow was dry all the way to the apron.
We dropped in around 3:30. The apron had a managable breakable sun crust.
10 day GFS looks like a chance for a couple light refreshers. Hopefully some help from a cold NW flow and the smog cloud seeding.

Wow great job TBatt. I went up to Brighton with my 5 year old. Was pleasantly surprised when she ended up skiing 1.5 more hours with Daddy after the lesson ended. Took her up Crest lift and down Pacific highway. She did so well. So proud.

Poked around upper White Pine yesterday with limited expectations, mostly to get some mileage/vert in. Wandered up to Lake Peak to look around, the booter was sporty to gain the ridge with deep sugar below the wind crust. Maybird has definitely suffered from the winds, the scouring is impressive.
The NE face was thin and rocky but Lake Chute looked good and surprisingly not wind loaded. Supportable windboard up high, settled pow in the middle, variable but manageable stuff on the apron. No instabilities noted.
Great powder to be had in the sheltered slopes below the dam. Crossed back over to the Tri Chutes which looked wind hammered with fully extruded skin tracks, found more settled pow in the shoulder by the Birthday Chute. Columbine bowl was baking in the sun, skin glopping and roller balls were observed. Felt like April up there. Exited the tube which is filling in nicely.
Beautiful warm day up there. Everyone I ran into was psyched.

^ looks good. pretty weekend, wind did a number on the snow in a lot of places. looks like someone skied seagull, upper chunk looked pretty bony to me lol
and from today, still found some soft snow in the mid elevation protected north, but the luge out is getting some sharks exposed... left a little p-tex up there

I am overdue to test pull my ABS bag this season. Does anyone know a local shop that can swap the canister / cartridge? I emailed SnowBigDeal but they aren't travelling to SLC anytime soon. I'd prefer to save the gas money / $35 hazmat fee and find something local.

my friend at snowbird said he got the news last week. they are trying to offset all the cat skiing business they will lose once mary ellen gulch opens.
did make some turns this morning. blustery at times but other times, not so much. temps close to 30 early. wind impact widespread but sheltered areas still riding well but a little more reactive than a few day ago.

This was always the grand plan. Keep snowbird with a "Wasatch family". Cummings and Bass go way back as I understand. Made the deal right before dick passed. Dicks kids didn't want it.

On the surface not a big deal as family owns both Powdr & Snowbird unless they are combining them for a package deal. Would be interesting as I can't imagine that they would ever sell to Mtn after the PCMR fiasco. Though if it were me and Vail offered me $5 million more than Alterra I could swallow my pride.
