If I go on a trip it's usually to a non-megapass place anyway.

Now if it was unlimited bird days instead of solitude, would totally get me to pull the trigger. And if I had multiple trips to say Jackon and Revy or Steamboat or whatever planned then yeah that would be a sweet deal. I don't hate on anyone for going with it, most of my friends skiing out here this year are ikon holders! Just the crowds that suck, but such is the way of the world. It's gonna get busier.

Another good one yesterday. Full parking lot at White Pine at 9am late start led me to believe that fresh tracks would be limited. But we found ourselves breaking trail up *name redacted* with no one in sight. Two top to bottom laps and we moved on.

Right? Was everyone at the race?

Yeah, bummed about the boots, not because I don't like new gear, but because I've got a trip a week away.

You're welcome. I found them in my girlfriends garage in Winnemucca. She had no idea what they were, and I remember you posting about possibly looking for a pair and reached out to you. Glad to see they are living the good life now instead of gathering dust or the bad dump.

The 1st photo looks like you're skinning up below the N Face of Red Baldy in the upper White Pine Basin and the 2nd photo looks like you're going up the NW Ridge of Red Baldy (the NW ridge that goes up North of the summit). Am I correct? How was the snow and the stability?

Yeah, definitely no big secret location. Just trying to be more mindful of what I tag. It’s crowded enough around here without spoon feeding.

Did the weekend warrior inbounds ski thing this weekend with brother in law. Brighton Saturday skied great and Bird Sunday was fantastic.

Traffic and parking still junk show. Even on non holiday non pow days. Makes me scratch my head.

Had a $30 lunch and beer at top of Snowbird. Pork loin, 2 sides and IPA. Was worth it. Deer Valley type food. Didn’t know Snowbird was turning that way.

Pretty good weekend out there! Stoked to see everyone getting after it... allow me to continue the stoke train lol

Left work a little early on Friday and decided to rip up Triangle for a quick mission, good overall but some definite crust and crude below the fresh snow

There is no forgiveness for rounding out kickturns. It's a whippet-to-the-neck level of offense. I watched 5 idiots obliterate a skinner that i had put in and been milking all day recently, it went from casual to heinous in a hot minute. Every one of these knobs would initiate the kickturn 2 steps too soon, put their fucking ski down almost vertically, and bitch that the skinner was too steep and poorly set while sliding down through 3 more turns below. I ran through their party shaking my head and got an earful form the guy in the front, I'd have pushed him off but he fell out on his own.
Here's a thought: if you don't like or can't follow a skin track, STFU and set your own!

lol, it is immeasurably more frustrating when you were the one who set the skinner... even more so when you set it that very day. I don't understand the thinking behind pointing your skinned ski directly up the fall line on a steep slope nor do I understand the virulent objection to taking one extra step so as to make a proper kick turn, but it is funny watching people fall down on the ascent (and watch them making Austin Powers style 6 point turns to round a single switchback) so I guess the schadenfreude will have to compensate for the ruined skinners.

I agree, it's puzzling that people don't understand that when you only have 1 skin on the ground and are shifting your center of gravity all over the place it's in your best interest to keep things as flat as possible. Maybe there's a flexibility issue at play here? I'm all about steep skinners but I always drop the angle one step before and a few steps after a kickturn. Nothing ruins the moment more than backflipping out of a turn into deep snow when you're only wearing a baselayer...
The Argenta skinner had some of the weirdest kickturns I've ever seen this weekend. On the upper section that leads to the summit there were fully excavated 6' long flat platforms at every turn. Some sort of anti-Wasatch move I could get behind as long as I'm not doing the excavation.

Bummer, looks like AltaBird will stay on the Ikon. I'm holding out hope that at least the number of days will go down.

That's great news! and don't you worry looks like the number of days are remaining the same. I've been loving having an Ikon pass this year and I'll definitely be getting it again next year!

Here's my stoke contribution, as you can see I used my ikon pass a lot last week. Good times with ya Mall Walker
