Yeah, Alta was the same. Other than a few hours in the morning the lines were better than I expected. I was able to to time the Devils Castle opening and was probably the 10th guy in. It did not suck.

this season with limited parking and fast terrain openings, AltaBird has been great even on the big holiday days. When you want to cuss Ikon, remember, every vehicle with an Ikon skier is taking the parking space of an SLC bro that would have skied your favorite stash.

Good point. Yea, Collins line Saturday and yesterday were long early but by late morning they were not bad at all. Noticed on Saturday that the road was not entirely full with parked cars. Left at almost 4:00 and drove down without any problems. Yesterday / Sunday was about the same. Ventured over to Catherine's yesterday and found fresh track way out. Have not skied anything except Collins in probably a week but the lift lines at Supreme were out of control. When we skied past Alf's restaurant the ski racks were full and there were skis laying everywhere. I said last year they put the Supreme chair too close to Alf's and that was proven yesterday. Lines were so long that the congestion with skiers, people in line and folks trying to get into Alf's was a mess. Moving that lift 20 or 30 yards uphill would have made sense. Lastly skiing Sugarloaf on any busy day is taking your life in your hands. On the way over to Supreme I barely missed getting hit not once but twice. First one skier crashed avoiding me, second was a guy came flying out of the woods. Only thing that saved me was me knowing that I was dealing with some unaware skiers as I was keeping an eye open for exactly what happened.

Didn't feel any more crowded up there than any other number of non-holiday weekends we've had this winter. I think Ikon blackouts + fear of LCC crowds made it pretty manageable.
Talked to Alta marketing Thursday and they confirmed Prezzie weekend is historically their busiest of the entire winter. Also stated that skier visits so far this winter are on part with 16/17 () and reconfirmed that they are keeping an eye of the experience and vibe, just like the April 2018 Mike Maughn blog post said. More skiers seems like something they're happy with, but a degrading experience is not. He spoke about stewardship of the mountain too, and that he completely understands that visitors that may come for a few days as they travel around on their Ikon don't care for the area like longtime locals do. Sounds like they're trying to strike a balance, which was at least somewhat refreshing to hear in person.

Also, my cousin is coming out for a weekend in March he wants to learn to snowboard. First timer. I have a Bird pass but don't think it's a great place for a first timer. I have my 2 free days at solitude to use, seems likely to be better. Opinions on other places? Haven't spent time anywhere besides snowbird basically

Saturday was absolutely incredible. Snow skied so well (ultra light and dry). Reports were like 8-10 but the previous days snow and lack of wind made it perfect. Did about three hours at Brighton Lapping Milly today. Walk on for a holiday was a nice feeling.

^^^it's laughable all the bitchin' about the ikon pass. To think a ski area would consider huge lines an issue is also pretty laughable. That's the sign of success. people wait for hours to ski 400 feet of ice on the east coast all the time.... have you been to disney world, they have the greatest lines in the world! I wouldn't expect Alta or Snowbird to leave the Ikon pass anytime soon. The only people bitching about the Ikon are those that missed out on the best ski pass in North America.
Skiing's been okay, today was the deepest 3-5" day I can remember

Just don't tell your friends back home about the reporting system here. Especially if their pats fans.

Amazing shots there guys. I'm hoping the snow continues until I get there in a couple of weeks.
" The only people bitching about the Ikon are those that missed out on the best ski pass in North America."
True dat. I never got a pass until getting the MCP last year and got my money's worth out of that. I got the Ikon this year and I will get at least 20 days on it for ~ $600. The best part is my wife can't bitch about all the money I'm spending going skiing. The worst part is thinking I could ski much more if I had the time off work. Crazy good deal.

That's cool and all, but I will get over 70 days on my Bird pass making it a better deal (I bought it early). I make no argument that the IKON is the best pass if you're someone that skis in the 20-35 day range, but it didn't make sense this year if I just ski the bird. If I go on a trip it's usually to a non-megapass place anyway.
Now if it was unlimited bird days instead of solitude, would totally get me to pull the trigger. And if I had multiple trips to say Jackon and Revy or Steamboat or whatever planned then yeah that would be a sweet deal. I don't hate on anyone for going with it, most of my friends skiing out here this year are ikon holders! Just the crowds that suck, but such is the way of the world. It's gonna get busier.

Fair warning...I will be bugging you about on guess on conditions for the weekend. Thinking about driving out with my wife.
Pluses: I've been respecting your area since 1983
Minuses: I have an IKON pass
I'm guessing cloudy but with soft chalky snow? Sounds perfect for Snowbird.
