June 16 was latest I ever skied lift served pow at snowbird. Skied with a mag I met in the lot. Cdlv. Kicked off a small sluff that day that closed peruvian for a bit while they dug out the unloading area.

    Fun times.

Lines were pretty ridiculous but they always are at the bird when every other resort is closed. Due to lucky timing on openings I got 4 untracked runs yesterday. I’ll wait in line for that. Was conversing with some friends about skiing pow at the bird on Father’s Day in 2010-11. Things at the bird were so much better when telefreewasatch was calling shots on openings. Anyone remember when Peruvian gulch used to be backcountry only terrain accessible from the tram? That was awesome. Did lots of baldy(alta side) to coma chute laps in those days.

I hope the 4th happens. There is still a ton of snow up there!

There were no lift lines in Grizzly Gulch and Wolverine Cirque yesterday.

Figure 8 Hill skied nicely yesterday (Sat.) even at my awfully late descent time of 1:30 PM.

I dropped in from the entrance to Heaven's Gate near the bottom of Patsey Marley Hill. That drop in was NOT a safe line, however. I started a few roller balls one of which ended up being about 2 feet in diameter, and I basically had to traverse away from them until I got below where they stopped rolling. The new snow at the top of the drop was very shallow, maybe only 6" or so, and I slid a bit on the old, firm snow underneath.

Figure 8 Hill, however, felt very stable to me, no rollerballs nor sloughing at all, though you can see in my photos that the snow was affected by green housing. The snow was a tad damp. I never felt the old underneath surface. There was no skin track back up the hill, and I was too lazy to make my own. So, I only skied 1/2 of a figure 8.

    Nice!

The snow in Main Baldy was great today. The rest of the day over at Snowbird was a mix of frozen chunder, supportable crusts (that got sticky), and great groomers (if that’s your thing).

Dipped into Alta for a lap today through the armpit gate, variable was the word. Blackjack traverse was quite sticky.

Planning on a lap or two tomorrow am at Alta if anyone wants to join.

2:30 at the Bird was pretty nice, winter like snow piling up.

High north facing this morning skied unbelievably well for May 20th! The sun was starting to do its thing by the time I left around 9 but anything in the shade was great! Jealous of the guys I saw coming out of little chute but I was rolling solo and had time constraints.

saw your tracks! under same time constraints so hit stonecrusher. snow was good but needed to dodge the wet slide debris.

It sure is nice when they turn off the lifts at Alta, and everyone is drawn there like moths to a flame. Meanwhile, the rest of the wasatch grows silent as the hikers are kept at bay by the snow and the few remaining backcountry skiers instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano to a little place called Alta.

I know it's a high bar here in the Wasatch, but you gotta be in the running for most vertical feet before sunrise
