no wind whatsoever that I felt, though there was evidence of wind (big slab on the shoulder slightly buried but you could feel it easily). also, while it was cold, it didn't feel particularly worse than it's been. maybe it'll get colder as the day goes on, idk. trailhead car thermometer said 19F. got some cold fingers/toes up high but with no wind it was really not bad.

Bummed to miss out on the goods today but between traffic and 11:30 am canyon closure it just wasn't meant to be I guess.

I was last car down at 1130... Skiing was best of the year so far up there. REALLY good.

There was quite the line up heading up LCC, and probably 300 cars stopped at the closure (closed til' 1pm). Gong show at 4pm today!

The only day I've had with any hassle on the road so far this year was yesterday. So I think it's too soon to say. Alta about as crowded as it gets today, so that doesn't help anything road-wise.

Rode the lift with a couple from st Louis that got turned around in their Nissan by upd (then rode bus). They said anything that looked like it had AWD flew through, and they were the only car to get stopped.

Wow I’m surprised they actually turned someone around. We got to the bottom of LCC a little before 8 and it was smooth sailing. Cops were hanging out at the merge but didn’t seem to be checking anything. Driving down was quick and easy too, left a little after 2. Honestly I was pretty shocked at how well the driving worked out today.

High s facing seemed to ski better than e facing early this am. Noticed some minor sluffing on the steeper stuff. Was surprised at the minimal traffic driving down around 10 am then observed the shit show at the bottom

Headed up 10420 after Lunch. North East winds were kicking up. Must have been -30 at the top with the wind chill.
Lots of snow being transported. 2F at the car at 4 when we left.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Fo sho. Lotta frostbite out there after the winds picked up.
Surprised at the lack of traffic on upper elevation south in the LCC today. Woulda been ripping before the winds picked up.
Heads up tomorrow on those same ridge lines!

    Happy New Year, all.

got after it this afternoon, thanks for the up-track mall walker. however, skin-fail kept me from getting the goods up there in the RG.
intense and blustery wind transport kept the snow super-cold, light and dry, and had nearly filled-in your skinner and exit tracks by the time I rolled up in the late afternoon. should be a "best run of my life" repeater, tomorrow. I'd join you, but I'll be at the bird.

Slightly wind kissed in the Gobblers area but overall great turns and very few people out this morning. Not nearly as cold as the thermometer read either.

SLC mags, anyone recommend an area orthopedist? I’m sitting in Alta clinic with a broken tibial plateau. Surgery most likely needed. Not sure if I’m going to need it here or wait till I get home to NY.

    Thanks.

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS, AND ASSORTED DRIVAL 18-19

Found some good pow turns in beartrap this morning. I also thought it felt a lot warmer then the mercury indicated, until the breeze kicked up for a second. py pic but it was too cold to take anymore.

Did my broken collarbone this summer. He actually did it twice but the 2nd one was my fault. Good guy and an avid mountain biker.

Thanks. They want me to get a scan locally. Besides the broken tib. I have a nasty contusion on my mid thigh. I walked out of my ski in Eagles Nest and caught a tree to the upper leg. I can only imagine the tibia impacted my femur. I think my knee brace probably saved the femur.

Lower leg injury on Short Swing... Speaking of which, short swing is a little thin, but the snow was soft.
