spent most of the day breaking trail inside a ping pong ball. new snow not bonded great, sluffy and soft slabby up high. basically every steep cut sent a slow sluff, looked like a small natural cycle too. but when that visibility hit...

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS, AND ASSORTED DRIVAL 18-19

Solid day out there today. I think the resorts only reported 4-5" but it skied more like a foot or so. Snow is pretty stable but be careful of sluffing, lots of snow moving around on steeper slopes.

went looking for something that I hear can be kind of hard to find. managed to find the entrance with a little help from a friend

tried looking for the slide path on my way back to the car on the bypass road today. Someone said the slide broke by comma chutes (have they even be opened...like ever?) , but seeing the pics it looks like it was triggered by someone coming off high baldy traverse??

Current best place to get some boot work done? I used to go to Inkline but they aren't picking up the phone and their voicemail makes it unclear whether they are still actually open or not.

Mandy is great, was under the tutelage of OC. Chris is still open (as of december?) but in an odd location off 900s, usually in the shop ~10-4/5p from what i remember so may just swing through?

Alta was $$$$ yesterday minus the hangover and clusterfuck getting there.

Skier poached Coma chutes. One partial burial on the cat road. Snowbird sent a probe line, dogs, and ran the Recco.

Well, I was optimistic we might see that open this season. No longer.

Pretty sure i heard that the one patroller at Snowbird that had any interest in getting this terrain open is long gone. Notice we had a year or 2 (maybe going back 5 years now) where it was opened pretty regularly, then all the sudden, not open anymore....that terrain requires both resorts to work together. Maybe you can snag it when snowbird goes to peruvian as backcountry (also hasnt happened in a few years).

I went there a couple months ago, OC moved out. Not sure where to, might be done-done.

Said patroller works for Alta now and frequents the forum.
There was a big slide there back in 2011 (?) which resulted in a large lawsuit. Good luck. Guess you just gotta wait until it's socked in and poach it. Oh, wait...

I went there in mid jan for footbed work and he was still around. He did a great job.

You can try calling but it’s just him and his wife running the show and they were crazy booked as of a month ago (consistently referring people to his former employee now at 2nd tracks). When I was there he told me it’s better stop by in person to make an appt if you have time, or just wait a week and they will get back to you.

He’s still off 900 by some roofing supply. It’s on google maps now, info below

Kinda sucks to be part of a problem. Never intended to be. Always pictured myself being part of a solution. Ah well, youth, innocence, reality, and all.

Looking forward to a bunch of mags down here in a week and a half.
