WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS, AND ASSORTED DRIVAL 18-19

Like is heading up the canyon at 5am a thing?
Road will more than likely close 0530-0800ish friday morning if they don't do a full blown closure thurs night. Best bet is to hit canyon bottom by 0520 and go hang out in the GMD. I'd join you but I'll be working.

EDIT: if you come down want to bring those helixes in your other thread? I'll buy em.

Ok, let me ask this then. How many times a year are there full all-day closures? Ever?

I don't really want to drive 7 hours and then not be able to ski at all. I'm guessing we could go BCC, but that will probably be nuts if LCC is closed all day?

It would almost work better if everything was pretty much closed Friday and we drove down then and skied Saturday.

I just have no idea what I am in for crowds wise. Like I said, I was GMD interlodged twice maybe 08 and 09. Last time I chased there like a normal person was like 2004 and I just drove right into the parking lot with 16" or so and it wasn't even crowded.

I guess it's a whole different animal now?

If you can be at the base of LCC at 7, and just sit and wait for it to open, you’ll be fine, or beat the closure and kick it in GMD. I highly doubt it will close all day Friday, there hasn’t been a full closure up there in a while, however there is a lot of snow on the way. If it were me, I’d be beating the closure(unless it happens tomorrow night) or in line for the road to open by 7. Closures generally happen at 10pm, 12am, or 5:30am, unless there is a distinct safety concern.

Based on how touchy things are it could close easily Thursday night.

    Or not. No one knows.

Today was fun. No one on the mountain, fairly wet snow. Lots of sluffies

i can recall only two all day closures since 2010. if it's a big enough storm for a full day closure, you don't want to be anywhere near the canyon on MLK weekend!

edit: we should all keep talking about this upcoming storm instead of reminiscing on how damn awesome it was today. amiright?

Saturday morning is going to be a shitshow. Powder princesses out in force, MLK tourists, and partly sunny blue day. I don't see much of anything getting open on Friday, forecast looks pretty impressive.

Terrible, upside down snow in the Ogden mountains this morning. Lots of shooting cracks but no clear bed surface for the slabs to move on. But the slabs were growing with the new snow and strong winds.

Plenty of great wind-manicured tree skiing out there. Plenty of Dad turns were had and also some Dad airs. If I had been wearing dad jeans they would have been creamed.

    I’ll add a photo in a bit.

I'm seeing conflicting reports on the LCC road closure:

    @AltaCentral 01/17 SR-210 Closure Gate B 10pm , TOA Interlodge 10:30pm, Est. opening 0800 1/18

@CanyonAlerts Jan18 Little Cottonwood will close at 5:30amfor avalanche control. Estimated Open 8:00am #utsnow

Either way, it's gonna be an unbelievable cluster...

I would personally give the nod to Alta central on that call.

If Alta says interlodge, she be closed! At least from Gate B. Get sum boys! Not very often do I miss the SLC, but interlodge still gets my blood pumping!

10 PM road closure, 10:30 interlodge. You should probably drive up tonight and get a room at the GMD if you don't want to be the 500th person in line tomorrow morning.

We pussed out and stayed north. The hard snow we had this AM swayed us...and not wanting to pony up for a room at GMD. Enjoy tomorrow you guys. I'll come down and ask for change when it's not Martin Luther Apocalyptic Nuke Weekend.

I dunno, there isn't a day at work where I ever question my life choices, where I live, if I should move, and my overall sanity like when I do being stuck in canyon traffic for 5 hours.

Looking forward to bitching about the traffic tomorrow with the rest of you kooks.

If you see a beater with beautiful veneer Protests ask for change and let’s take a lap.
