17 people so far that night? How well stocked is the bar? Balvenie, Caol Ila and IPA?

(edit) with Mr & Mrs Mike and Hev, I think we're up to 20?

@ Vendul, it looks like a pain in the ass to get from Rueras to Engelberg. Am I missing something there? Maybe the plan is overnight in Luzerne on the way to Engelberg?

@ Norse: There is an express from Luzern to Zurich Flughaven 7:10-8:13. I am planning to take advantage of that and use Luzern for my "Zurich airport night" because i have spent a night in Zurich on a couple of previous trips, but haven't sampled Luzern yet.

Well Engelberg is close to Luzern and Zurich, on the side end it's not of easy access to the rest of the Alps, still if you catch the 3:33 p.m. train in Rueras, you'll be in Engelberg by 6:50 p.m., that's a reasonable 3,20hrs at a reasonable time of the day (can still ski here and have dinner in Engelberg)

agreed that sounds legit, but i am not coming up with that option on ssb.ch/en/. I am getting this, which includes a painful hour standing around in Stans. Poor interwebz skills or is the issue this construction work that should be done way before March I assume ("Construction work: Between Andermatt and Disentis/Mustér, engineering work is in progress More information")

I think this link only gives back the query page, not the result after the query script runs.

But it does take 3 hours 15 minutes from Am@ to E-berg with an hours wait in Stans on SwissRail.

I don't think the construction affects this amount. Stans is 20 km from E-berg, so a taxi might be an alternative and expensive.

I thought the connection was great, didn't mind the wait.

Another option is to skip the first connections to E-berg and get the next one, stash your stuff in the lockers and just go have dinner or a drink at one of the hotels near the Stans bahnhof, like the Engel or the Stanserhof.

got it now--that's starting in Andermatt. If you plug in Rueras (where Vendul's place is right?) that adds about an hour, but that's the time to get from Rueras to Andermatt. Dinner on the way is an option worthy of evaluating too.

I'm glad the IPA is covered but I'm very concerned about the scotch provisioning.
Caol Ila? Lagavulin? And for my pal mofro261, Balvenie?

I fail to enjoy the trip too often, get too focused on results. Travel is so much better for me when I can focus on the journey.

I polled--arriving at Vendul's 16 March after a 15:40 arrival into Zurich for 4 nights, so will ski around that area March 17-20, planning to leave for a few days at another ski area the afternoon of Wednesday March 20. During my 4 days around Andermatt, I'll be doing a couple of days of mellow stuff with my wife, and, conditions permitting, a couple of less mellow days too.

I'll arrive the 17th evening, leave late the 22nd.

Sounds like we have a quorum. Let's hope vendul stocks a healthy supply of local herb infused firewater.

I was a math major. We were notorious for not being able to count, but being able to prove that one can given the right set of axioms.
