    Building a Ski-Touring Cabin

After over 20 years of dreaming, scheming, and endless dead ends, I'm finally getting close to completing a ski-touring cabin in the local mountains. It's authorized by the Province, and will be operated by a small non-profit I set up. It'll be 12' x 24', shed roofed, with 4 beds and wood stove, sled accessed, and sitting right at the base of an out-of-the-way zone of exceptional skiing. Overnight bookings will initially be monopolized by the volunteers who contributed to its creation, but will gradually be opened up at $20 per person per night.

    Truth.

You also don't want to publicly offer a recreational service in someone's tenure .... but I would assume after 20 years of lament, OP covered these bases.

We had a rad cabin for a while, build on private land in the heart of the monashee .... but capitalism. The land was sold, our beer box agreement was tossed aside and now some guy runs a marginal cat ski operation in its place.

Some of the best and worst times of my life were rooted in that cabin. You guys are going to have a blast.

maybe 6 years ago I helped put a 26' trailer on crown land out in the BC for a ski cabin so I asked if this was really legal and buddy said oh yeah its ok as long as its not permanent

the difference is up here the all the govy guys who make decisions and shit happen ARE the skiers so instead of applying to the gov and jumping thru hoops buddy just talked to some guy 2 cubicles over at coffee and ... Bob's yer uncle

we even got a used outhouse from parks

    Building a Ski-Touring Cabin

I am just going to build a semi permanent camp on crown land , based on a pretext of using it as a base camp for my own private SAR organization.

I figure with enough guns on site and the support of grandmothers on social media, it will be more of nightmare to remove than to just ignore.

It took me many false starts to work out how to navigate the (BC) system, but I've worked it out, and once this one is established, I'm keen to build another one, and so on until I can't. If others are keen, I'm happy to share strategy. The more ski touring cabins the better. Once our volunteers have got their efforts worth, I'll definitely let TGRers know how to get in on the fun.

    Awesome
I can volunteer some free labor,
I’m in town and not working right now. I have tons of building experience.
Although it looks like you got it pretty dialed in. Please message if you need any help.
    Congrats.

Very cool. Love the community involvement, too. Building bonds and buildings. Half the effort was probably getting permits and setting up non-profit. Great work.
