Y’know, I’ve been considering skiing in Europe this winter. This might work out.

    Will be following.

Rumor has it the FWT Verbier will commence a couple days later. As yet unconfirmed. So you could do that too.

I might be in the 'hood but probably in Spain until Verbier if I end up having an excuse to go.

I'll be bombing around E. Switzerland and Austria the week prior.
Which day do you arrive in Zurich? If I go, it will be a Friday to following Sunday, so evaluating airport options and prices with dates either March 8-17 vs. March 15-24. If I do the latter, then I would arrive March 16 with first ski day March 17, which synchs up swimmingly with the Andermatt plan. If the prior week, my first ski day would be March 10.

    First part
I land ZRH March 7, and head off to ski for a couple days with some locals, hop the afternoon train March 10 to Bad Gastein, lurk there for 3 days, then back to either St. Anton or Montafon on the 13th for just 2 days, then to Davos on the 15th for 3 days.

    Second Part
Head to Rueras on the 17th for the remainder, leave there eve of the 22nd for ZRH.

The first part will be kind of crazy with long rail rides to and from Bad Gastein and I may decide to follow snow for a few days before heading back West to Rueras.

If anybody is renting a car, honor the speed limit. I was popped for speeding by a traffic camera near Zurich last September. Got a $70 citation in the mail back home a few weeks later. Ignored it (because it’s another country - what are the odds they’d follow up?) Got three or four more letters, and the last one said I’m flagged in their passport control system and will have to pay $300 next time I want to enter Switzerland, hah!
Switzerland - not part of the Schengen Visa area. You are screwed and will most likely have to pay. CHE is quite serious about their border, check passports all the time, and if in a car you need the vignette.

Well fuck. At that price it’s cheaper to go skiing more days.

For Denver mags, similar prices from DIA

This run, one of my personal top 10 evah, ends more or less at venduls hotel (OK, 1/4 mile East of venduls hotel), @mtlodge_sedrun, mt-lodge.com

Requires a 30-40 minute skin from the top of the highest Disentis lift.

We're stopping at about 1/3 of the way down

Question is do I just crazy cheap flight now without confirmed tour dates...or do I risk price going up.

I'd wait until Danny confirms the dates if that's your main goal.

Will flight prices change that much? I doubt they'll change a lot in the next 5 days, but who knows.

You could try bookending the proposed dates by 4 days on either end and hope, but that's a lot of exposure for not making the tour.

I'd love to go, but it would be uncool to ditch this opportunity in Rueras. Unless vendul fills his hotel with you miscreants.

If Dan guides the Urner, he has a bunch of other guides that are great we can use to do some stuff around Andermatt/Disentis and maybe some of the farmers lifts.

set up a google flights alert on what you need. I've been watching SEA/Barcelona at a similar time frame for a few weeks and it bounces around, but still very low.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those cheap flights went up some. Yesterday American had round trip to Zurich from SLC in the low $600’s but they’re now in the $950 range, even though google and kayak are still showing the lower prices. Once you click through to book, they hit you with the good news that prices have increased.

Another person found shitty fares on kayak. I found good ones as long as one sets the +-3 days under the "exact dates" tab.
Another path is to use explore : http://www.kayak/explore and set the approximate interval and start city.

C'mon, it's really pretty easy. The transatlantic requires walking around the plane for me and a day of diurnal adjustment (bring melotonin) but the skiing is really, really fantastic, like nothing in NAm.

vendul is a good guy and his setup looks like a classic Euro lodge 300 feet from a train station, $55/night, bar and restaurant in the building.

Hopefully Danny will be around a day before he takes off, great guy. Andermatt is awesome as is Disentis.

It would be cool to spread out the guide cost for the Oberalpstock: 3 hours skin and via ferrata then 6k+ vertical feet down to Bristen, bus down to Erstfeld, train back to Rueras, weather providing. If it's stormy, we ski pow.

current plan probably not, but it's an ever-evolving thing and nothing carved in anything other than styrofoam at this point.

These are the SkiArena ski tickets prices for those days, when purchased in advance... pretty interesting isn't it?
