I am awed by your aesthetic sense. Thanks for the clarification.

I don’t get it. He’s actually taking energy away from the carve as well as momentum. He even looses leverage on the board causing it to straight line and come out of the turn.

I'm a big fan of carving groomers although I still can rock the soft boots and the big popsicle stick in powder.

there's more to this story but since you guys love "rail" on hardbooters...have a field day with this.
maybe I'll follow up on the rest of the mess later.
suffice it to say ..It's a NICHE market, at best. Like kitesurfing, I love it but...it ain't for the masses, not even close.

^^^ Agree; board carving is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on snow, but when you can't recover from your turn without pushing off of the snow, you're just doing fancy push-ups.

Watching someone who can truly carve on a snowboard is awesome. Sadly not many seem to be able to do it and just slide around.

No doubt it's beautiful.
But, Extreme Carving is a special type of rotational turn, the purpose of which is to get as close to the snow as possible, which entails a loss of speed, especially when compared to racing midweighting techniques.
Touching the snow, even brushing lips on the snow, is part of it.
Jacques and Patrice developed this style of riding and designed their unique Swoard Alpine and soft boards especially for it. (Both are great all mountain boards, btw.)
That's two major accomplishments in a place, Switzerland, that has really high technique and equipment standards.
There"s a long series of midweighting vids beginning with this one, where the goal is to get in and out of carves quickly because you are running gates or a BX course:

We're 99% in agreement here; touching's fine but going all the way, so to speak, to the point of actually purposefully supporting your weight with your hands/hips/face i.e. assisting your legs and reducing the demand for a perfect edge hold/carve, is a step too far for me.
