I don’t get it. He’s actually taking energy away from the carve as well as momentum. He even looses leverage on the board causing it to straight line and come out of the turn.

No doubt it's beautiful.

But, Extreme Carving is a special type of rotational turn, the purpose of which is to get as close to the snow as possible, which entails a loss of speed, especially when compared to racing midweighting techniques.

Touching the snow, even brushing lips on the snow, is part of it.

Jacques and Patrice developed this style of riding and designed their unique Swoard Alpine and soft boards especially for it. (Both are great all mountain boards, btw.)

That's two major accomplishments in a place, Switzerland, that has really high technique and equipment standards.

We're 99% in agreement here; touching's fine but going all the way, so to speak, to the point of actually purposefully supporting your weight with your hands/hips/face i.e. assisting your legs and reducing the demand for a perfect edge hold/carve, is a step too far for me.
