    Laps, Naps & Braaaaaps (+ a helicopter)

Last April the fiancee and I took a trip to the Golden area to get a little bit of skiing in. We had 3 nights booked in to a hut just south of town. With sleeping room for 5 the group changed a few times as people dropped out due to life circumstances but in the end, we went up with a great crew. 3 sleds and 2 toboggans went in.

We had lucked out on condition - despite the spring temperatures in town there was cold smoke up high and ~10cm fell each night we were there. This led, in the words of Lee Lau, to acceptable conditions. Our days consisted of delicious breakfasts, tours, lunch at the cabin, naps and then sledding in a nearby meadow.

Visibility prevented us from getting high but the terrain looked incredible whenever we did get a view of the gorgeous terrain surrounding us.

Couldn't have asked for a better group or a better time.

We then took off to spend a week in the Campbell Icefields. Our timing here was impeccable, too. Good stability, incredible views, good snow to be found and again, an amazing group.

Fiancee's first time in a helicopter. Lucky lady got front seat.

The snow was excellent if you looked for it.

One of the best parts of the trip was going for a tour with Albert who turned 80 that day. He still did a 1000m vertical day. Truly special to experience that.

Chris is a wealth of knowledge about geology, which was fascinating to hear about in our location.

It's nice to have a sauna to come back to.

(no idea why some photos are upside-down/sideways. That's annoying)

^ yeah man - such good views and we had every day but one as blue bird/broken. Accommodation was stellar, as you say. We also lucked out with our custodians - they were great dudes. Showed us some spots to go on days when the sun crust was especially prevalent, joined us in the evenings and shared drinks and stories. All around great place.
