Imagine if skiers had to share the ideal mountain trails with polar bears of some other wicked dangerous predators? You can avoid stuff like avalanches and still get to enjoy the sport quite a bit. I guess we're getting a taste of what Australia has dealt with all along with regard to surfing and beach fun.

I saw a g-love show in Seattle earlier in the summer. Was previously unfamiliar. Loved it. Cool mashup of various genres and an actual musician.

    Not blaming him. So tragic.

Sponging always freaks me out. I feel like a seal.
It’s kinda surprising that wet suits are still black. It seems like day-go colors would be a safer option at multiple levels.

It is believed that sharks are color blind and it would make sense because they've attacked colored surfboards.

Like airbag packs for skiing someday they should have suits or boards that emit an electrical charge to repel sharks. Just have to remember to charge up your wet suit before heading out.

They've come up with devices in the past that was supposed to ward off sharks.

It is time to re ignite the debate about whether or not pissing in the water/wet-suit attracts sharks, repels sharks, or makes no difference??

The bottom line is if you're moving around on a surfboard or a sponge, you're going to look like shark bait. Maybe if you're stationary it would potentially work, but then you wouldn't be surfing. So yeah, sharks are scary and always will be to a surfer.

I'm more surprised on how nice that beach is there. Had no idea cape Cod was like that.

outer cape is magnificent. Look up monomoy in chatham, great kitesurfing despite whitey. The Comber is pretty cool but riddled with tourists all summer. Donovan Frankenreiter has played there, year after year, Dick Dale, too. You see the stickers everywhere and t shirts, people thinking they're cool, like a black dog shirt.

As a parent I can't imagine sending my kid out into the surf to play on the cape now. We go to Maine. Water on the Maine coast is too cold for GWs, understanding that they have a basic heat exchange system and can tollorate colder water than most sharks. Any sightings ever as far up as say the 5 islands/Bath area? Never heard of one.
The proximity of the gulf stream to the coast up to, and just past the cape brings in the big girls....even up on Nova Scotia.

When I was in H.S. we were sailing across the Gulf of Maine towards Isle a Haut. We were on a 35 footer. A 15 to 20 foot GW swam up next to the boat. She swam under the boat. Then she followed us for about 10 minutes. We were about an hour outside the canal. She. Was. Massive. My neck hair stands up juts typing this. On another trip from Charleston SC to Stonnington Ct on a 60 footer we watched white sharks smash tuna on the surface like a trout hitting a grasshopper. If you've never been in the Gulf Stream, it's wild out there. Even a big Sailboat seems pretty freaking small.

You won’t see me in those waters. Especially with a wetsuit on. That’s hubris.
