    Agreed, Stevens would be awesome.

But really, the weather here is way too shitty to support the kind of blue skies and diaphanous powder the uppah crust seeks.

I hope the new owners get their ski patrol and avie control act together, that's easy to underestimate if one is coming in fresh.
The thing is, in my 34 years of ski area, ski patrol and avi experience it is extremely rare for an ownership change to have much effect on the ski patrol and avi programs the 1st year or even 2 unless there was a death involved.

I am far away in Montana so I don't know the inner workings. Is JK leaving? Or just going to be a non-owner/manager? Is Kim stepping down?

I am curious because there are rumblings here in Big Sky country as well.

I believe the term used was "stepping down". Hence my query.

    Yes and yes.

Stepping completely away is my understanding.

    As is Andrew K.

    That was my next question.

Who knows, maybe Andrew decided that running a ski area wasn't for him. It does involve a lot of commitment and the rewards as Warren Miller said were, "how to make a small fortune in the ski biz? Start with a large one."

JK was always a fun guy to have in a room. Best wishes to him and the famdamily.

Makes me really wonder whats going to happen about 40 miles down south from Bozeman. Like I wrote, there are some signs that change may be in the wind.

I don't think there is land available, especially for buildings, but even parking lots. Except for a few inholdings dating to patened mining claims, all the land is USFS operated under a special use permit.

There were pie-in-the-sky plans for a major hotel at the Gold Hill inholding floated in the late 60's, and an even more ambitious plan for a series of hotels up high near Pickhandle Gap and Crown Point which were to be serviced by not one but two gondolas built by the hotel then leased to CM.

None of that was financially viable, but since the 2004 Master Plan, the potential has been almost totally removed.

The sale includes some land held by the Ks just to the south of Greenwater.

Hopefully they''l build some decent employee accommodations down there and napalm the old units at the mountain freeing up some space for development..... but actually just avoiding the gulag like living conditions for staff might help with the whole customer service issue.

It's the descendant of KSL private equity and Henry Crown private investment group... so the who is probably not available easily if at all.

    People know that xtal is good but they would never come here over park city, whistler or vail. No risk of destination resort but I’m sure alterra would love to get SEATTLE folks and all their money to other spots . So here’s my wish list ;
    1. Easier access to beer without lines after skiing
    2. East peak double for slack country access would be great
    3. Accommodation is in desperate need of updating
    4. Chain check at 410
    5. Outdoor bar and snack shack at Campbell lodge
    6. Remodeled base lodge
    7. Eliminate permit parking and add valet parking
    8. Reroute gondola to top of nway
    9. Change snack shack back to satay hut
    10. Add club at base for ski storage , showers , etc...

Dear god please do not implement chain checks. Or, at least do not use CalTrans as the model.

.. Hence an offer he couldn't refuse.

    1. Easier access to beer without lines after skiing I hardly eever drink in the resort bars (maybe the patio occasionally) The Elk beer line at full crush is perfectly tolerable - what they need to do is stop showing anything other than ski movies on the TV... I hate the atmosphere that football games create in there compared to ski porn
    2. East peak double for slack country access would be great Yep... although we might come to miss the current peace and quiet.
    3. Accommodation is in desperate need of updating Yep
    4. Chain check at 410 to be effective/safe/fair this needs to be WSP or PC Sheriff not asking less than minimum wage parking lot attendants to argue with irate motorists
    5. Outdoor bar and snack shack at Campbell lodge move the patio shed up there
    6. Remodeled base lodge Yep - better police table camping, left bags, brown bagging
    7. Eliminate permit parking and add valet parking you can take my parking permit from my cold dead hands! How on earth would Valet parking work the flow of incoming vehicles would be impossible to match[
    8. Reroute gondola to top of nway not sure what benefit that would bring.. the crush it would create on the Elk side of Green Valley would be horrible.
    9. Change snack shack back to satay hut see above - would structure stand up in weather conditions at Campbell Basin lodge
    10. Add club at base for ski storage , showers , etc...Club?... Showers? ewwwww.

There doesn’t need to be a chain check, just a Prius check.

We don’t need a gondola on top of Northway, just make it a quad.
