NYC bike shops?
Any must visit bike shops in NYC? Anything high end, road or MTB, lightweight specialist, cool cafe-bike shops.
I have some time off from tennis and I’m missing my bike life.

Not the best place to buy, but R&A in Brooklyn has walls of drool worthy road bikes/frames.
Sent from my iPad using TGR ForumsIt makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

you could check out cc cyclery (cool bikes), bicycle habitat (high end old school shop), NYC Velo (snobby but i liked to browse there), king kog (snobby fixies, interesting stuff), or B's bikes (nice neighborhood shop near mccaren with lots of other things / coffee nearby).
I'm sure there are other high end shops that have amazing bikes but the east village and williamsburg were more my scene.j'ai des grands instants de lucididididididididi

If you happen to find yourself up by the George Washington Bridge, Strictly Cycles has some nice road candy.

^^Yeah Nelson has a pretty cool show going on over there.
Don't bother with Habitat, it's a much different place than it used to be. When I was the manager there it had a real global city shop kinda vibe but it's changed a lot since then. We used to have a cool location with old fixtures, tin ceilings and an on the spot repair station in the front window that jammed all day long and 300 bikes on display. Now it's in a new(ish) space that's always dirty and overcrowded with stuff laying around on the floor, the high end stuff is pretty vanilla Trek and Specklized and there are no mt bikes at all. That and it's closing at the end of September...
Up until just a few years ago there were some really cool shops in the city, not so much anymore but Velo is alright and 718 in Brooklyn is pretty good too. Other than having road bling to look at R&A is pretty shitty people so unless you're white, male and appear to be successful don't bother. We have a fellow maggot here who doesn't fit those first two requirements and her experience there was pretty horrible, she's not the only one.

That's sorta what I was getting at. I bought a bike there...but I new exactly what I wanted: walked in, looked around, told them what I wanted and what size, gave them $$$, and walked out. Saw people who actually needed assistance get treated kinda shabbily. Didn't notice the "white, male" bias...but more: treated customers with questions as bothersome dummies.
I got a 2yr old Cervelo for something like 60% off...their closeout stuff is a good deal; otherwise, I don't think I'd shop there. It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
