They are 186s. Thought about flipping them but don't think id get much. Truth is, I think they'll be fine for a touring powder stick, but the 114L would be better

Separately, I have some LD102s that I love. Only one of them has lost all camber and I need to get it replaced. Been talking to Down. Maybe I should PM them to get in on the USA shipment

corvus freebird: Not saying it's not a great ski but...

    - tighter sidecut (21m vs 25 for CD104L)
    - heavier 3600 g (175) vs 3150 (181) for CD 104L
    - more expensive (best I could find was $679 for last year's model vs a lot less for the Down preseason/TGR sale)
    - pink (fine but personally not my favorite color)

All these things make the CD 104L option much more attractive to me as a touring ski, personally, even if I would like a few more mm underfoot.

wider ski is going to be heavier naturally (tho that one only marginally)
Down produces a great ski & the price is hard to beat

Maybe stop endlessly obsessing over what will be the perfect touring ski and actually go touring on a ski that you have to see if you like it? I'm pretty sure no matter what ski you are on you will have fun in the backcountry, this isn't some hard to solve riddle. You and beetle are birds of a feather though, ha.

It's true. I flip skis like an IHOP chef flips pancakes To make matters worse I have about two dozen days touring and so far zero bad days...

But if I can't obsess over touring skis and my inbounds setup hasn't changed since 2012, what's a guy to do??!!

Haha, my comments were meant more as a gentle ribbing than probably came across. Glad you got some touring in, and yep, it's rare to have a bad day in the backcountry!

    Quiver up, dude...

Anyone have experience with bibby or bibby tours vs cd114 or 114l? Looking for something to put shifts on.

Love the big radius/low weight but sizing is a bit off for me. If they had an LD 95 in 177, a 108 in 181, and a 114 in 184, I might buy all three. The CD104L in 181 is closest so I'll go with that this year. Hoping there are some wider LD options in the future.

My old 180cm Powder Plus with Dynafits were silly heavy but were 115 wide, straight as fack, and the dream touring shape. A Down LD version of that ski (lighter, low profile tip rocker) would kill it, IMO.

^ look at the full dimensions on the LD102 and LD90, the 102s are like 122 at the tip iirc and 109 at the tail, maybe a touch narrower there than a 95 waist typically would be. I also struggle fitting their skis in my quiver mentally but they’re worth that problem. 179 LD102 is a badass option.

I was gonna get the 186 LD102s, but link said out of stock. Still true? I think I'm committed to CD104Ls

Edit: yeah, 186cm LD102 still showing out of stock on the website.

Not true, I ski 90% of the skis I go through

Our obsessive tendancies seem similar though.

Yup, no doubt the LD102 in 179 would be sweet. As others have noted, it's easy to overanalyze but I've discovered that I really like a mid-90s width for spring touring. The 102 is bit of a strange size to me - a bit wide for firm/corn and not quite wide enough for winter touring. Even if the tip/tail are the same size at narrower, curvier options, there is something to be said for being able to weight the edge easier with a narrower ski.

Actually, the LD90 in 177 is a more attractive option to me for spring. I have a line on some Atomic Backland 95 (177) this season. If they prove to be too curvy for me, the LD90 (or LD95, fingers crossed) might have to replace them next season. Since the CD104L will be my first Down planks, I don't want to go too crazy this year until I've had a chance to sample their sauce. Can't wait!

The 102 is a strange size for me too, which is partly why I’m getting the LD90. If I were doing a second pair this order, it’d be a 104L. I’ve got shorter, narrower skis that I acquired specifically for scary days, but every scary day I grab my 102Ls.

I’m cautiously optimistic that with all these 104L orders I might get to try out a pair
