giant has really nice kids 24" for around $225. didnt need suspension as it only adds weight and how much can a 9-10 year old really get anything out of it considering how light kids are.

If it's designed and tuned for their weight the suspension on a 24" (or 20") can work great. It's just not cheap, and there is definitely a significant weight penatly. Whether the cost and weight is worth it depends on what trails you ride and what level your kids are riding at. Full squish 24" is certainly overkill for most kids. On the other hand, I know 10 year olds that ride A-line and throw no-handers over Crabapple Hits.
