very sad. These big cycles tend to include a tragedy or two, I always cross my fingers and hope it doesn't happen..

So sad. Positive vibes to his family and friends. Let this be a reminder to us all of the dangers that these huge storms bring.

Squaw lured a lot of people to the mountain this morning. Guy in front of me in line for Funitel bailed when he found out no Palisades, no Granite Peak and no Silvie. He was 4th in line at the time. I ended up doing some runs off Headwall and found some great snow still and then Red Dog Ridge (from both KT and Red Dog lift) as well as Squaw Creek. Lots of pow still out there.

Vibes to the family of the passed.

Speaking of lines that rarely fill, a coolie behind a sister looks stacked.

West shore zone was variable. Best snow below the cliffs. Wind fucked up top, but still a lot of soft.

Hope to find some north facing trees tomorrow.

If it's the same one mentioned above he was found during sweep.

Heard a troller at Sierra was doing sweep at the end of the day and thought he heard someone in the trees yelling he ended up finding some dude buried up to his neck in a tree well, he might not have made it though the night if he hadn’t been found.
seems like maybe different version of the same story

Most likely two different events at different ski areas. Actually heard of quite a few tree well incidents over the storm cycle, RIP to the fellow skier lost at Heavenly.

Anyone ski Heavenly yesterday or today?

Trying to guess what the crowd factor will be like on Thursday, if I end up touring folks around.

Heavenly was packed. Kids out of school. Cal lodge parking full around 9. Morning closure of comet and dipper and associated access made it seem worse than it was.

Yesterday morning I was hitchhiking on 207 heading back to the ski area. An older woman in a pickup truck with Nevada tags going the opposite direction slowed and began yelling that “people like me” skiing out of the resort were the reason the person had gone missing at Heavenly. I engaged her that the search was taking place in the ski area. She then yelled the same thing at me again before gunning off in a black cloud of diesel smoke. I guess this is the “sucker track” argument that if you ski it someone who shouldn’t will follow your tracks and this will be your fault.

Nah, it's just the asshole argument. No use engaging people like that.

Wasn’t that Monday? Curious about yesterday. Monday was a holiday; only some kids out of school this week. Mine is supposed to be in school.

Yeah... this is definitely a thing. Did outer outer a few weeks ago and as we’re getting onto the road, a couple of guys pop out of the woods and ask where that road goes. Blew me away that somebody would follow tracks blindly.

I live directly below munchkins at alpine meadows and the number of people I’ve talked to this year that access that terrain with no BC equipment is terrifying. It’s a miracle there aren’t more accidents out here. The ignorance is what really gets me. So many people who look at me like I’m crazy when I inform them of the dangers.

Employee says Heavenly is crowded because this is ski week. Don't know what that means.
