No troughs yesterday to worry about, but definitely some sharks if you weren't paying attention

Upper mountain at Squaw today was good. Heavy chalk and creamy windbuff in some spots, smooth and chunky in others.
North facing aspects off the top of Headwall were the jam.
Skipped riding over by Shirley and Granite Chief because it was socked in with fog/clouds all day.
Lower mountain (we hit Sun Bowl around 1pm) was really, really chunky and gooey and pasty (especially that bowl down by the bottom of Headwall, next to the groomer/easy way down from KT).
Bailed at 1:30, mostly due to jacket malfunction (zipper broke and my jacket was flopping all over the place).
    Good post-pow day though.
Hoping this next weather cycle delivers.

Funny about all y'all being over by Red Dog yesterday...I was lapping the area under that big rock outcropping in the saddle just before you get to the top of Far East during my stint on the hill.

Well, compared to Vail it’s a low bar to clear...

How many people have been skiing AM. I get that it sucks, but as stated, Vail set the bar pretty damn low. While they are still operating the Heave, ya gotta access via the Gondi to ride two short not steep east facing lifts. Most spring days that shit is cooked by the time you offload your first chair.

All things being equal, I’d rather they spin Summit over KT. I think. I used to love spring skiing at AM off of Summit. $29. Groomers first thing, then ridge hikes skiers right, then to High Yellow, then Keyhole, followed by bumps when things got too heavy. Perfect. At Squaw ya gotta go all over the place timing the lifts. And the groomers kind of blow there. So short.

Anyway, better than not spinning KT.

Why they don’t keep AM open one more weekend is perplexing as I’m sure it things will be more crowded next weekend.

fuck them. i went there cause it was the last day and now i have to do it all over again!
just kidding it was a blast. completely worked after four runs but it's getting better and i'm cleared for skiing again on 6/18 so i wanna be ready for that.

went in search of corn up red lake peak main gully today and found it but got turned around early with a broken dog nail.

doesn't really matter cause tomorrow is another pow day, but the corn had set up but with intermittent sticky spots and it was schmoove

It really is a bummer considering Alpine is the best resort for spring turns in the region... but, it could be worse. Hoping if they get their gondola they may start to keep it open later but probably wishful thinking.

OFFICIAL TAHOE 18/19 STOKE, CONDITIONS, WEATHER THREAD

There and KW. Late spiting I prefer KW for its mostly north facing steeps. OTOH, inversions can fuck up the overnight freeze. Summit@AM offers way more varied terrain, and the groomers are longer for early morning firm. So I guess it is better spring skiing, as different aspects soften at intervals thru the day.

Killing it at the pass gents. Can’t believe how fat crescent looks.

    *Yeah, but...*
MM just had one lift, 11, open earlier, now all on hold - light snow/heavy wind.
Whereas SV has all scheduled lifts open now.

Damn... looks like this would have been a great day at Squaw. "Cold" temps and no sun.

That is tempting, but isn't it supposed to be rain or rain snow mix after today at Squaw?

OFFICIAL TAHOE 18/19 STOKE, CONDITIONS, WEATHER THREAD

It's been really hard to get a handle on whether it's gonna be snow/rain andhow much of it will show this week. But so far things have worked out.

Today was a pretty good fast windblown pow day on upper... if you could see. There were some moments of vis that delivered the goods tho.

How were the temps? Snow wintery... and better yet, staying wintery? Forecast is showing temps staying at freezing or slightly below into tomorrow morning.

Damn. I was hoping/expecting 4,5,10 but 9 is just bonus. Never even been over to those parts. Decision made. Will make the long drive. Some where in all that terrain the skiing should be nice.

Wind hold today only helps make it look better.

Another great spring ski day! Snow did not ski too wet but I got pretty soaked and goggles were routinely plastered.
